Pastor's School Memories

The crazed whooping and hollering for the cardboard cutout of the Bible that was hewn out the mountain.

Remember breathing in all the dung dust from the rodeo earlier in the week. I choke and get breathing spasms just thinking about it.

What were we thinking?

Pretty sure it was Jackie Boy himself.  Your picture is not from that night, either.

Well duh, but it gives you the feel of the dung dust. It is the building not the Pastors' School Session.

It was set up the long way. This was March 18, 1993, the Thursday Night Closing Session.

Some where I have video from the whole night, still looking for it.

I also have a 8x10 glossy that was passed out, still looking for it too.

That was the night we were led in blaspheming the Holy Spirit as a congregation.

That sure was memorable, I'll never forget it, it bothers me greatly to this day.

It is one of those things we need to publicly admit was great sin and repent openly admitting it was very wrong.

That same week we had a night called The Blood.

That night Jack Schaap was the high priest and sprinkled the blood on the mercy seat.

Bro. Hyles presented the magic blood theory and told us Jesus sprinkled His blood  on the heavenly mercy seat.

He told us the blood was in a vessel in heaven. I don't think he used "Holy Grail" but that is what he meant.

Well that is quit Catholic. Catholics rejoiced. Indiana Jones would have approved.

I've written about this before. I had personally been involved with the event.

It was the night of the pyrotechnic blood that didn't explode. Then I heard it.

I believe I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit whisper "I am not please with what you're doing". Only time in my life.

Then you need to get your heart right!  Because based on some of your posts, I'm sure the HS has been trying to get through to you!  (jk!....jk!)

As a kid, I sat there thinking......."this is weird. "

Eh?  Can you elaborate?

Ah, yes, the made-up doctrine to "get" John McArthur.

Sure.

We derided and mocked several valid versions of the Bible.

Bro. Hyles had us whipped into a wild frenzy reminiscent of a lynching by racist mob.

The lynching of Satan's Bibles.

He picked up an NIV and started tearing out the pages and tossing them in the air.

There were hundreds of audible gasps at what he was doing, the audience was not reacting as well as he expected.

He had gone too far.

Then he said, "don't worry", as he ripped off the slipcover that had NIV on it.

It revealed it was only a Soul Stirring Hymns Song book, Dr. Rice was rolling over in his grave.

We were worshiping and adoring the Anglican translation of James Stuart while at the same time calling all other valid translations Satan's Bibles.

Of course this was vintage Riplinger-Ruckman.

Bro. Hyles had brought this unto our church when Ian Paisley of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster spoke for us in the 60s.

While we don't know or understand all that happened when Jesus died we have a pretty good idea that  the passion that was rehearsed annually by the Hebrew people at Passover was a physical representation of what would happen in the spiritual realm in heaven one day we must believe that this did occur.

The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:  Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;  Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.  For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?  Hebrews 9:8-14

While we want to know why we believe what we believe sometimes it is better to retrace steps instead of completely charting a foreign course.

I think you guys are referring to a different time. The one I remember was when I was a kid (guessing around '75 or '76) and the conference was held somewhere in Chicago. I remember it being a change-of-pace from the usual Civic Center (maybe it was unavailable that night).

I don't know, it is all foggy for me now. :)

1981 or 1982 at the Civic Center, they had Mrs. Rice say a few words. I remember she said something to the effect of enjoying Bro. Lakin preach, Ray Hart sing and Bro. Hyles make the announcements.

Pastor Dan Parr preaching a message while on oxygen with a high fever.  I believe he passed away a few days later.

It was 81.  I was there.  We had just moved to the area and ready to start HAC in the Fall.  I have an Air Force buddy who was a senior at PBI.  In those days Ruckman sent the seniors to pastors school.  I scanned across the auditorium and found him and his buddies sitting there looking as miserable as possible.  I asked him later if they were all so miserable because they knew all those thousands there didn't believe the "Book" like they did.  He affirmed that.  Of course, he's not that way now, but that was a mindset you got from attending PBI.  Sorta like HACkers and open-toed shoes.

Bucky Tucker University and its fight song sounding much like Notre Dames's.
