Paul Chappell on Cameron Giovanelli

Why would he?

Having said that, waiting on Treiber's comments.

It's scriptural to preach against fornication whether it is predatorial or not but as long as this guy is in jail there is no need to warn people of him.  And other than a few independent web sites and local news sites there isn't much about this case. It's different from the Jack Schapp case which Chappell did talk about. There are so many Giovanellis (by this I mean predators) that if you speak about one why not mention them all? You can go to stopbaptistpredators.com and get all the Baptists (not just independent) predators on there.  Chappell is reponsible for protecting the congregation he is overseeing so he should be concerned about possible predators within that local church.  If there is one 1 Corinthians 5:12 needs to be applied (along with calling the police).

Why is this different from Jack Schaap?

He's more well-known and from a church that is more well-known (though the college that Giovanelli was president of is pretty well known, everyone knows HAC is the prototype for colleges like GSBC) .  The church that Giovanelli was serving at at the time he turned himself in I never even heard of.  If you do of search of  "Jack Schaap" you can find charismanews.com and huffpost.com as sources.  I think after Jack Schaap and the other news about abuse allegations against independent baptist church leaders in America, guys like Giovanelli are one among maybe hundreds ( I don't know the stats but it is much more than you can count on both hands but certainly not in every IFB church - as much as I dislike the guy, Steven Anderson isn't a (known) sex pervert nor have any of his followers had allegations against them. I think there may be a correlation between being angry or sorrowful about sin and not being a pervert. Schaap was too nice of a guy and even making at least one suggestive joke, we should have seen red flags.

It is truly heartening to see some serious pushback and protest, from within the IFB movement, against the traditional tactics of slandering and bullying the victims of abusive IBF preachers, while covering up for the abusers.  The Giovanelli case just might turn out to be a significant turning point for the better among IFBs, due to the widespread revulsion and public protest against the extremist defense of "divine right of pastors" by the Gray/Domelle clique.

With all due respect to you, I don?t share your praise for these brave young Pastors taking a stand for righteousness. It?s akin to a scientist taking a stand for the law of gravity.
With the web and mainstream media shining a new light on the seamy underside of abuse, what choice do they have?

And if they said nothing?

99.9% of IFB pastors have done just that.

Life goes on.

Hmmm not really, more like 60% of IFB pastors did nothing.
