Places that I remember in the HAC/FBCH area

How about Miner Dunn!!  Great place to eat.  Always gave you a little cup of Orange sherbet for dessert.  I believe it is still open.

What was the name of the drive in on Indianapolis where all of the old cars would show up?  Was it the Blue Moon Drive in?

Do you remember The Omni on Route 41?  I believe they had a skating rink, work out area, and much more.  Shortly after it was built HAC made a rule that we could not fo to the Omni.  I had a roommate get expelled for going skating there with a girl.

They tore down this place to make room for Walmart:

Where was that?

Corner of 30 & 41, right across the street from Teibels. They tore this place down for the Walmart plaza with all those stores. Sauzer's also owned the Kiddie Land where Culvers is now, right next to Grimmer's Service Center.

On the other corner where Stracks was at one time, there used to be a Mays Department Store. That was when I was in about 2nd or 3rd grade...

lol... this should go on the demerit thread. I went there specifically to see what was wrong with the place. Toured the whole thing as a potential customer. Still can't figure out why they made that rule.

There was a racquetball club on Route 30 not too far from HAC.  You make a right hand turn on 30 and it was on the left.  Four or five of us joined for a few months.  We would play racquetball and spend time in the hot tub and sauna.

Wow!  I remember the Kiddie Land but I do not remember The Waffle Shop.

I think it must have been the skating rink.

On Indianapolis Blvd almost to the interstate there was a flea market.  It was on the right hand side of the road.

If you notice behind Sauzer's, you will see the old, beat up driving range that was there at one time.

That may have been it.  It was a small place.  I believe it had 2 or 3 racquetball courts and a small 1/3 court basketball court.

The mall in Merrillville.  Spent a bit of time in Aladdin's Castle.  I think they made a rule against going in there.

When Frank died the kids sold the land where Kiddy Land was as well as the Northeast corner of 30 and 41.
It's all gone now.

Blue Top was sold, remodeled, and is now open complete with young ladies on roller skates serving as carhops.
