Places that I remember in the HAC/FBCH area

Best hamburgers EVER! Almost worth a trip up there just to get one.  Almost.

Six years at HAC, never went there. Took my kids back to visit the campus two years ago and went there for lunch. Loved it. Can't believe I drove past that place all those years and never stopped inside...

There is no excuse for that!  You should be reported to DCFS for child neglect. Your kids had a deprived childhood.

Unfortunately I missed this one.  Where is it?

There's one on Rt. 30 Schererville next to the Dairy Queen that was mentioned.  There's also one in Crown Point on N. Main Street.  There is also one on Taft Street in the Strack & Van Til shopping center.  I frequented them a lot.  haha!

Ok, for all you old hackers, the Southlake Mall isn't the Southlake Mall anymore.  It is now the Westlake Shopping Center.  Blasphemy!

There was a towing/repair shop on the northeast corner of Burr and Rt. 30.  Our car was towed there after our wreck in front of Shakey's pizza.  There is a Walgreens there now.

Sherwood Lake apartments.  The young marrieds with a little money lived in Sherwood Lake.  We lived across Indianapolis from them. Loved our little basement apartment there! There was a Blockbuster movie rental place and a little run-down motel on the corner.  We used to rent movies AND a VCR from that Blockbuster.  Our kids crack up at that!  Hey, VCR's were expensive back in the day....like several hundred dollars!  Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!  We watched "Faces of Death".  I'll never get those images out of my head.  ha!

LANGEL'S PIZZA!  In front of Sherwood Lake apartments.  YUM!  Still our favorite to this day.

You know it!  ;)

Round the Clock near the corner of Rt. 30 & Indianapolis.  Oops.  Raider already mentioned that.

What was the name of the drive in on Indianapolis where all of the old cars would show up?  Was it the Blue Moon Drive in?

The Blue Top and it has been resurrected by the owner of Simon Sez in Merrillville. He bought the old, boarded up Blue Top and it is now opened.

Does anybody remember the name of the men's clothing store in downtown Griffith on the corner?  I don't know why I remember this, but Jeff Colsten worked there.  That store isn't there anymore.  Last I knew it was a pet shop.

BRRRRRR, (buzzer sound ) Wrong! The one on Taft closed its doors. There is one in the food court at South lame Mall, one in Portage on Willowcreek Road, and one in Valpo by Blythes sporting goods! And a few more here and there in NWI.

Awwww.  One of my kids worked at at that one!  I have been gone for nearly 5 years, so it's happened since then.  Sniff!

Highland Department Store on Highway Ave.

I was working two blocks away from it today.

There was a large Holiday Inn in Merrillville.  I believe the building attached was called the Holiday Inn Star Theater??  They would have big time names in for concerts.  I'm guessing it is still there.

Star Plaza: Oak Ridge Boys still do a Christmas concert there every year and we usually go.

In the early to mid 70's, when the college first started, there was a fast food place on the South West corner of 30 and 41 called Burger Chef. So many HACkers tried to witness to the workers there that HAC students were eventually banned.  The chain was somehow a favorite of Coach Price and we wound up eating at Burger Chefs on road games.
