Porn Star-Turned-Pastor

I have to say, I’m not sure I could attend a church with a pastor who was a former porn star, but maybe that’s a downfall on my part. What do y’all think?

Just thinking out loud, if a Christian has lust in his heart for a woman, is he any better then a porn star?

The verse @abcaines quoted should be our approach. After all, he got saved, dropped out of the porn industry, attended Liberty University, and now actively works against the porn industry and is a pastor. Still…I can’t help but think many Christians would struggle having him lead their congregation.

I don’t know if I’d use the term “any better” because a sinner is a sinner, but I don’t consider the two acts identical. That’s like saying you wished someone would die because you hate them so much, versus actually killing someone.

While I can see some thinking "TMI" when considering his past, I think there's too many whose lives have been damaged by porn to be bothered. I, for one, applaud him after reading this article.

Are videos still accessible? If so, then he should stay out of the office and the spotlight.

He's just asking for trouble.

According to Wikipedia, he was one of the big stars of the industry, winning awards, and he’s only been out of the industry for about ten years, so I’m sure his videos are widely available and distributed. I’m not going to start searching online to verify! 🫣😳

As with any other media, the copyright would be owned by the production company. A performer's moral rights include being credited for the performance or not have it altered in a derogatory way. They don't include blocking release because he's converted to Christianity in the meantime and now regrets signing that contract. I assume the same would be true for legally produced porn.

Being saved may settle accounts with the Lord, but all sin may have temporal consequences that stick with you. You can't erase your past any more than you could regrow a limb lost in a drunk-driving accident or have your criminal record expunged.

I disagree. How he responds to the trouble could be an issue, though. Paul had to deal with his well-known past. If this pastor handles his past wisely, I don't see his past disqualifying him from the office.

I agree. I know this is 100% true, but I also know myself and think I’d have to battle myself to not judge his past.

He's open about his past, makes no attempt to justify it, and warns others from following the same path. His transparency and accountability are the fruits of repentance and regeneration.

Sure, some enemies of the Gospel will mock. But you can't blackmail someone who makes no secret of the skeletons in his closet, either.

What if he had consented to and been complicit in to the murder of other people, even Christians?

assuming he was still single - would you want your daughter to marry him?...... and what if his endeavor wasn;t to be a pastor?........ what if he was just appointed as a bank president?.... and his sin prior to being saved was bank embezzelment and defrauding bank investors.... would you feel good about putting your money in that bank or opening an account?..........

there is another analogy i heard years ago about bath towels that got used to clean up an overflowed toilet and mop up raw sewage.... .. you washed them afterwards... ..even used bleach on them............ but are you going to put them back on the towel rack to use after your shower?... .or dry your baby off with them after giving him or her a bath?..... ... ..... ....or would you find some other use for them - like washing the car.... or soaking up used oil after an oil change?......

gross sin in a persons life does not exclude them from being used of God or even becoming a full time servant of God.... but there are many ways to serve God other than holding the churches highest and most important earthly position....

and since paul was brought up - i have to ask this as well...... was paul a pastor?...... if a king cannot build the temple because he had once been a man of war ....how much more does God expect of a man who would lead and pastor a church?.......

No, but he was an apostle and the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets.

i am actually more interested to see if someone here would want their daughter to marry this guy...... but i;ll play along with the paul angle....

there is a big difference in a buildings foundation and the walls/roof of a house or church.... ...

in the southwest of the 1800s and early 20th century - foundations for houses were often laid with bois-d'arc stumps..... (french for "bow wood")... ... it was a hard - very rot resistant, and toxic wood that termites and other insects and household pests would not cross.... .. perfect for a house or church foundation in a hostile country side...... but there is no way anyone would bring that wood into their house to build walls or furniture... they would not even build barns out of it..... . .the texure of the wood leaves abrasions and the toxicity of it causes massive infections....

side note.... . cattlemen considered the bois-d'arc tree one of the deadly 3 "B" s of raising cattle..... . they were bovine tuberculosis... brucellosis... and the bois-d'arc tree...... all could destroy a cattle herd if left unchecked.... .. in texas cattlemen burned bois-d'arc trees any time they found them...... ..... just saying.... .. being good for some things does not mean good for all things.....
