a green carnation

legends say that if you burn a green carnation in the presence of a witch -.. the witch will burst into flames and burn down to ashes...... ...... i have never put that to the test.... .... for one i don;t know any real witches.... .... and i also don;t have any green carnations..... just lots of hibiscus....

And here in the LC Valley of WA/ID, I was mowing my lawn on December 20 this year. My lawn finally went dormant a week ago.

Very true. In my experience, the teenagers who normally dress in shorts when it’s 30 degrees outside are the same ones who dress in jeans and a hoodie when it’s 90 degrees. Maybe Darwin was on to something after all….

one of oahu's most elusive wild creatures.. a wallaby - coming in to sneak a drink of water and a snack from a dog bowl near a house in the upper rainforest.... ....there are many conflicting stories about how wallabys established themselves as a wild colony on this island.... but one of the most commonly told is that in 1916 a breeding pair of wallabys escaped from the honolulu zoo and made it to the mountains..... people that live in the upper rainforest frequently put food out for them... but the wallabys have proven they can also sustain themselves.....

the diamond head lighthouse at sunset.... still in use as a navigation aid... it is owned and operated by the coast guard... it is also a residence for high ranking coast guard officers..... there is a good surf break off shore of the cliffs it sits on.. and the name of the break is... of course... "diamond heads"...

a tall tropical flowering plant known as the bird of paradise..... ....it;s a popular plant to use for landscaping in
hawaii ...and also picked for use in large floral arrangements . ........ but it also grows wild in the rainforest too -
... in the rainforest it;s found in relatively low elevations with ample ground water... and only in places where
direct sunlight can punch through the jungle canopy and get down to it.... it loves sunlight
.
