I had considered nursing school, so I did not go to HAC until a year after high school. My parents were faithful, godly servants who taught us the Word of God. Not only did they teach it to us, they SHOWED us from God's Word why we believed what we believed.
As a result, I was never into the man worship or the "whatever preacher says" mentality. I did join and remain faithful to the bus ministry all four years (and I still am in the bus ministry today). Once when my bus captain - on the trip to Chicago - said one too many times, "Brother Hyles says such and such, ", I responded with, "So? What does the Bible say? Brother Hyles isn't God." Yes, there were audible gasps from the captain and other workers. He paused and replied with something about my being right. I said, "No, God is right, and here is what the Bible says. " In this incident, Brother Hyles and the Bible were in total agreement, but I knew what the Bible said, while most of them were relying on what Brother Hyles said.
Again, I did join the bus ministry. I had been to CW Spectacular several times prior to going to college, and the PC - great organization that it might be - always had those clappy-happy-clappy presentations every single year that were way too long and drove me nuts. I was NOT joining PC. I also worked in the Sunbeam Department all four years. (My experience there is what gave me the extreme patience I show toward RAIDER.) I loved both the bus ministry and Sunbeams.
I did not date only bus workers. In fact, I ended up marrying what bus workers would have called a deadbeat. He left the bus ministry to join the youth ministry.
I obeyed most rules and - most of the time - the spirit of the rules. Sure, there were times I took chances, but I also was an adult, and realized if I made the decision to break the rules, then I had better be adult enough to pay the consequences. After all, I had signed my name to keep the rules, so I tried to do so. What good is my name if my word means nothing. I believe in eight semesters, there was but one in which I reached 25 demerits.
I enjoyed nearly every minute of my college life. I decided to do so. I remain in contact with several of my roommates through the years. I have also reconnected with some of the finest people I know through this and the older forum. Swamphag is a true, dear friend as well as kaba and a few others. (When we were freshmen, kaba and I lived almost directly across the hall from each other.)
Oh, and I got pretty good grades too, although I lost some GPA due to financial withdrawal.
