Quick someone take those Surgeon General warnings of the alcoholic beverages.  We are missing these tremendous health benefits that can't be found anywhere else.  :D

(Speaking real quickly and quietly)  May cause liver failure, death to brain cells, heart failure.........  If you have any of these symptoms or feel any differently after use please contact your bartender immediately.  ;)
So the Surgeon General now supersedes the Word of God ?

Was the original post a result of something read in Scripture or a medical study?  If it was a medical study then the Surgeon General might be relevant. ;)

God gave it to us as a gift, I don't care what any authority on earth calls it. Besides all things pertain to Him.

Hey God has given me the gift of life without alcohol and I don't care what any authority or person in recovery says..........LOL!

I hate to repeat myself but I am still looking for that elusive "abuse" clause in the Surgeon General's warning.

It's assumed by intelligent people like myself who know better than to read too much into a "GOVERNMENT WARNING".  Drinking in moderation does not cause health problems.  I bet if you pinned down the Surgeon General and asked him, he'd admit that freely.

And I bet if you shot him up with truth serum, he'd admit that it's perfectly fine for a pregnant woman to have some wine now and then, too (edit: Unless, of course, she was taking some medication with adverse interactions).

Regardless, I don't really give a hoot what the Surgeon General says, even when he agrees with me.  This is the same government that pushes milk and eggs for a season, and then blames all manner of illnesses on milk and eggs the next season.  It's the same government that warns us about good and bad cholesterol when there is no such thing.  This is the same government that is arguing right now that there is no scientific evidence that gay marriage is in any way harmful to the children they raise.

If you believe everything your government tells you, I pity you.

Anyway, it's the abuse of alcohol that causes problems.

LOL............LOL............ You would think from the response we were discussing soteriology.  Calm down........... You sound like you need a drink as well..........LOL!  Get with Recovering IFB (edited to change vandal to RIFB)  I think he has a bottle............LOL!

You are wrong Castor.  There are no intelligent people that equate consumption to abuse.  Consumption is the word used in the sentence not abuse.  Your assumption is unfounded in the warning.  You are also wrong to assume that such a powerful industry would allow such warning labels to be affixed to their products without a fight if they had a scientific leg to stand on.  There would be no limit to the legal battles.

Keep in mind that this Surgeon General warning predates the Obama administration when American government was at its purest since the 1800's............LOL.

I am also intelligent enough to not care if you drank one drink, a pint, or a 55 gallon drum of alcoholic beverages of any kind.  I just thought someone should present a different and valid point of view.  I have drank much alcohol in my life before salvation preferring cognac but even then did not feel a need to justify it for health reasons.......LOL.

This has been fun but it is not something that I feel warrants a sustained discourse.  Cheers guys!!  ;) :D

I ignored your original question because it was stupid. You're the one who insisted upon a response, so I gave you one.

So what you are saying is that consumption and abuse are synonymous?  If not then my question would be quit valid based on your quote of the warning.  ;)

We are disagreeing again after we found such common ground in a previous post and you are insulting me without insulting me........I am so happy to have my old Castor back..... :D

After doing additional research I agree with you.  We cannot trust people who warn us of good and bad cholesterol when there is no such thing.  So that means the research in this article is completely untrustworthy.

Here is a quote:  "Dr. David J. Hanson of State University of New York states that people who consume one or two alcoholic drinks, including whiskey, daily have a 50 percent lower chance of having a stroke or developing dementia in old age. This moderate amount of drinking can also decrease the chance of developing diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. These benefits come from alcohol's ability to increase good cholesterol and decrease blood clots."

My General has some warnings also.  ;D

Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

The side effects of strong drink could lead to death, sexual impurity, hate, murder, adultery, profanity, and cause a weaker brother to fall.

Jack Schaap managed most of these things on his own without the benefit of alkehaul!

Funny, the same General gave it to man as a blessing, huh! Who would have thunk?
Also you never hear about these same pastors or other teetotalers  go on about the dangers and health risk of gluttony.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. (Proverbs 23:21)

Those consuming (per Castor's definition of consumption  :D )alcohol to increase their good cholesterol and those overeating and those who are sleepy are all wicked sinners!!!!

This is too funny........LOL

Castor, if you like Jack, you would loooove bourbon. Try some Woodford Reserve, Rowan's Creek, Old Weller  Antique. It not like Baptist abuse anything like, let's say, food!! I see more pastors that struggle with gluttony more than anything else
I've  always said that if smoking is a sin, because it harms the temple, then it's in line behind a lot of 'foods'.

Regarding God - Jesus turned water into wine. I'll assume He's ok with me having a drink now and then.

Regarding the surgeon general - The phrase is "may cause...", not "will cause". And, yes, pregnant women have been drinking since prehistoric times. The key is, like nearly everything, moderation.

I am not joining the for or against discussion but there are some things in the Bible that compared to what I was taught have troubled me.

Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy LIQUORS:  (emphasis mine)  Ex. 22:29

And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy sould desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household.    Deut. 14:26

A MD here in NC recommended a shot of moonshine before bed to my sister for her cough/chest congestion would do wonder for her.  And yes you can get moonshine here in western NC easily.  I passed when I had my bronchitis episode recently.
