When those dates passed quietly, the prophecy seemed to collapse, but not entirely. Some adherents quickly shifted to a new predicted window of 6-7 October, arguing that earlier calculations had used the wrong calendar.
I mean, it's still October 7 somewhere in the world for the next 12 hours!
Just out of curiosity, do most of you folks here believe that the rapture will happen within a decade or a century? Do you think it could be hundreds or even a thousand years away?
This is no Rapture. There is the Second Advent, and that will be all.
Forgetting all the Lindseyian foolishness, we're told straight out in non-apocalyptic terms that there will be a great apostacy first, and the "Man of Sin" will be revealed before that day. This man of sin will be able to perform lying wonders...not fake ones...but ones that will confirm lies and deceive the nations into accepting "him," as God.
It will be much like the deceptions used by the other gods (demons) of the nations in antiquity, only more grand and universal. Only the "very elect" will remain undeceived.
Who knows when that will be? Tomorrow? Ten years?
You only know this...you yourself do not have a long time.
So just out of curiosity? What is it that you're afraid of?
I don't honestly know. My pastor believes it will happen within his lifetime (he's 71) or the lifetime of his sons. He'll never claim to be dogmatic about it but I believe he's looking for it within that general timeframe.
I think it's just as likely to be within this century as the next or successive centuries.
As I get older, I find myself recalling events that were 50+ years ago. Whereas I used to view 50 years as a long time, I am beginning to realize that it really isn't much time at all. So, I don't care to speculate how soon the rapture will occur.

Interesting. I guess I didn’t realize you didn’t believe in the rapture. So you believe that Christians will have to go through all of the trials and tribulations until the Second Coming?

I agree. Are Christians who believe in the rapture considered dunces? I was always under the impression there wasn’t a definitive answer regarding this rapture matter. My former pastor has a PhD in theology and it’s what he taught us.
Does your pastor believe in the rapture or only the Second Coming like these guys on the forum?

Not sure why you feel like the term suggested a demotion. It was a euphemism for fellow Christian, nothing more. The greater point was that your jaded perspective on dispensationalism has you aligning with some caustic views.

John Piper wrote a convincing book a couple years ago (and yes I read the entire thing) called Come Lord Jesus https://www.wtsbooks.com/products/c...-on-the-second-coming-of-christ-9781433584954 . He believes in a rapture, just not pre-trib. I agree. He says about 5 years need to pass before it happens, and he shows it biblically. I'm classic premillenial, post Trib, but I hold it very lightly. It is not a fundamental of the faith. That is a huge mistake of Fundamentalists, putting that at the center of what someone must believe to be a church member. It is a totally peripheral issue. Like outer ring in the concentric circles of how important doctrines are.
The Rapture doesn't mean escape from The Tribulation, as you understand the Tribulation. (See the Post-Trib Rapture people above.)
