Time is Eternal.

What about the verse in Revelation that I posted in the other discussion that time shall be no more?  Sounds like time will be abolished to me.

Do not raise facts that challenge Yeezy.

Law of Yeezy #1: Yeezy is never wrong. Ever.
Corollary #2: In case of a contradiction between Yeezy and Reality, see Law of Yeezy #1.

Law of Ransom #1 Scott is always right. Because.... He's the man. He might remember this from somewhere. He always been rather proud of himself.

I know Scott doesn't believe Revelation 10:6 says time ends. I know he doesn't. He's just taking yet another chance to call me Yeezy.

We are SOOO alike. That's why he doesn't like me. I remind him of himself.

Tell you what Walt. I know you're an honest man.

Tell me how many times you find the word day after Revelation 10:6. Did you also know that time is mentioned in the eternal heavens? Read Revelation 8:1 again.

I finally found some time to interact with this...

Time is a creation of God. He established time and is not limited by time. To suggest that "Time is Eternal" equates time with God.

God has authority over time. He is not constrained by it, but rather, uses time as a tool to accomplish His purposes.

It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. (Ac 1:7)

The idea that "God is Time" denies God's eternal nature.

Yep. Even though to my knowledge I've never discussed Rev. 10:6 on this forum, or on any other forum in nearly 25 years of online discussions, PeeWhy "knows" what I believe about it. He knows it so well, he says so twice.

At least you save me the trouble of discussing it. Since The Infallible One already knows what I would say, actually saying it would be redundant!

That is absolutely the best explanation of time vs eternity I have ever heard!  Sometimes I struggle on how to express something with words.  I wrote that note in my Bible under Acts 1:7.

Thanks for the compliment! I wonder how PY is gonna respond

i agree with that statement..........

now trade the word time for the word logic.. everywhere it occurs.....  and see if you can still agree.......

"I finally found some logic to interact with this..."?

Earnestly Contend

So many presuppositions....

Yes. Time is from the very nature of God. Just like Love comes from the very nature of God. Would you argue that God has authority over love? I know a Calvinist like yourself would never believe the contrary.

You have basically made the argument that Time can't be a attribute of God because such an attribute can not be constrained. If I misunderstood your argument then please correct me.

Explain how God constraining Himself would equal denying God's nature?

I know everyone was so happy to see such an argument but it really was a rather poor rebuttal.

You did make a observation that is so very true. However, you didn't apply it correctly.

uses time as a tool to accomplish His purposes.

God's purposes are Eternal. Nothing can be added to them or taken from them. Time and God's purposes go "hand in hand". They come from His very character and are part of His very being. They are not created. They are Eternal.

So you believe Revelation 10:6 says time will end?

That is what I said.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I didn't think you were dumb enough to believe Revelation 10:6 was translated correctly in the KJV. Are you becoming a KJVOist? Who would have thought that Ransom is agreeing with the KJV here....

How about you FSSL? Are you taking what the KJV has to say about Revelation 10:6?

No modern version translates Revelation 10:6 as saying time will end. Not one.

Isn't God logical? You might say He is beyond understanding but I wouldn't claim that God isn't logical. This would deny reason with God.

This is not an easy thing to pin down, because there can be so many misunderstandings due to our limited human nature.

For example, when people (and the Bible) say God cannot lie, what does that really mean?  That there is something stopping God from uttering a lie?

Or does it mean that when God speaks, it always becomes truth?  If God said a Tyrannosaurus Rex would stomp through your town today, then a T-Rex would pop out of nowhere and stop through the town, because whatever God says will happen MUST happen, since every word he utters is truth.  That would be another way of explaining why it is impossible for God to lie.

I did see that happen in a movie.

Or.... along these lines..... its the same logical argument about God making a rock so heavy He could lift it. The question isn't could He. The question is would He. Obviously He wouldn't.

Which is one of the reasons I am so hard you Calvinists. You think in so many two dimensional ways. I'm just challenging your thoughts.

About time that you got back with me! LOL!.... see what I did there?

When time is discussed in Scripture, we have God using it to set parameters for  His creation. Hence, we have this passage: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority." (Ac 1:7)

You call my use of Scripture, establishing the fact that God sets times as a poor rebuttal, yet you have no ability to defeat the premise. The infinite nature of God is being compromised.

Your approach is common among philosophers who want to equate God with time (as well as space). The Creator/creature distinction gets sidetracked. God's self-existence gets trampled by philosophers who want to make time an attribute of God. God's infinite nature cannot be constrained by our notions of time.

It isn't valid to compare time and love.  The Scriptures tell us clearly that "God is love", but make no such statement about time.

Bingo!  Even love is outside of time. In eternity past God loved us.
