people on here have tried to DEFEND pornography???????

No, no nudity-type porn, but something called "torture porn".  It was a phrase coined about a decade ago to describe the type of horror movies that glorifies the most disturbing displays of murder and dismemberment (think "Saw" and other similar slasher films).  Yes, people on the FFF said that crap was fitting for Christian consumption.

I will guess that if you found the threads with the kind of thinking, I would have been on the side telling them they were  nuts.

Like The Passion of the Christ?

Interestingly, the first time I heard the term it was used by the local newspaper's film reviewer to describe "The Passion of The Christ". He was a huge fan of the "Saw" films though. :-\

As graphic as that was, you prove your idiocy yet again.

Reading your karma points for Bo....

Pragmatic approaches to evangelism are apparently bad...except for when it's not. Just another glaring example of your consistency.

The Passion of the Christ was a gore movie.

Whether it was an appropriate use of the genre is a different question.

well according to some people.....(just like alcohol)....the use of something could make it sinful or make it not sinful.....

I don't agree with that thou.    I don't see any "wickedness" in passion of the Christ......its showing exactly what the Bible tells us.....its just showing what Christ went thru for us.....

gore movies....are meant to appease some sick desire for human suffering.....so there is a lot of wickedness with that.....totally different brother

People like to be frightened - spend some time outside their comfort zone. This is why they watch horror.  I don't think it is because they like human suffering.

Your logic would assume that someone who likes watching the news delights in world suffering.
[/quote]
hmmm...I don't believe so.....watching the news can be beneficial.  and we have enuff sense to turn it if it gets to a point where we realize we are exposing ourselves to something bad.....but we CHOOSE to watch horror films....

and as I say this I am (like everyone else on earth) a hypocrite...in the fact that I like the occasional horror movie.....but I still understand its not something Jesus would approve of

Objects (defined loosely) are not sinful. The use of objects for something other than their intended purpose is sinful. See also: sex, money, beauty, power, food, speech, family, work, pleasure, rest, anger, religion, community....

I can see this to a degree but its still a slippery slope.....

horror movies go a little beyond I believe....what other reason is there to watch them?

I particularly like more realistic horror....that deals with demons and stuff.....but like I say...I know its wrong.....Duet. 18 tells me that

The favorite argument of many a Pharisee.

In Christ, I have freedom. In your form of religion, I have what? <~~ also a major theme of the Sermon on the Mount

^This.

As for horror, I love scary movies -- the scarier, the better.  Blood and gore, no matter how realistic it may seem, doesn't scare me, which is why I'm not into blood and gore.  For whatever reason, I can't suspend disbelief when it comes to blood and gore.  It's always obviously fake to me, and therefore gratuitous.

It takes a really engaging story with unexpected events to grab enough of my attention for me to suspend disbelief and feel the intensity.  The first time I saw Aliens (the second in the franchise), I can't remember if I was scared, but I know I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and that's the kind of intense movie I like.

lol, I have no idea what you mean, which is par for the course for your usual ramblings.  But Bo is pretty much cleaning your clock, in a very workman-like fashion.  Common sense will tend to do that to your sophistry.

what about "soft porn"  its fake....they are not really doing it....it just looks like they are....????

could you see Jesus sittin down to watch the saw movies?  I doubt it.....but He would right?  if it was ok?

I like the feeling pot gives...but I know its wrong (don't smoke no more)....I like the feeling (sometimes) of being drunk  (I don't drank anymore) but I know its wrong......I like looking at beautiful women....but I know its wrong....

good feelings don't justify sinful acts.....

I don't mind a scary movie, but the definition of scary shouldn't be measured by the total gallons of blood splashed on the camera lens.  Gratuitous, as you said, is a good way to discriminate.

I couldn't watch porn without feeling inappropriate lust.

I don't really struggle with hate, rage, or a desire to mimic their actions when I see someone chop another person into little bitty pieces.

(Disclaimer: I think the horror genre is generally boring.)
