What books, if any are you reading, or have you read in the past year

I have been reading "The New Reformation: Unfinished Business Returning The Ministry To The People Of God by Greg Ogden
Another is Renovation of the Heart; Putting on the Character of Christ by Dallas Willard
They both seem reasonably sound to me.

Currently reading:
Wild At Heart - meh, not a fan
Are Miraculous Gifts for Today - interesting so far (about half way thru)
Finished reading:
Person of Interest - must read!
Twisted Scripture - pretty good
Habits of Grace - OK
Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes - very good

I've read your POI, TS, and want to read MSwWE. I've got a LOT to read this summer! :)

At present:

  • Witches Abroad, Terry Pratchett
  • Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, Kate WIlhelm
  • The Once and Future King, T. H. White
  • Bleak House, Charles Dickens
  • The Oxford Book of Science Fiction Stories, edited by Tom Shippey

As for what I've read in the past year, that was 50 books, so I won't list them. The most recent 5:

  • Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, John le Carre
  • True Grit, Charles Portis
  • A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Jules Verne
  • Knight Templar, Leslie Charteris
  • Shane, Jack Schaefer

I've never read Jack Schaefer. Or most of these writes. Is Schaefer good? I used to collect L'Amour, and had all of his westerns.
I've not read anything else of Schaefer's, but Shane is good. It's a classic Western. I decided this year I wanted to read some Westerns, a genre I've basically neglected, and this was one of the ones recommended as essential. (I've read it before--it was assigned reading in seventh grade.)

started the new kingdom by wilbur smith late last year....
but finished it sometime in january.... it;s the last of his
ancient egypt series... in fact... his next book which will
come out in a few weeks will be his last book completed
as he passed away just a few weeks ago...

beginning with birds of prey... i have read everything
smith has written as soon as it was published.... and then
i have gone back to read most of his older novels too..
,................................... .

and... i read diablo mesa by douglas preston and lincoln child
as soon it was published this year.... years ago i read their very
first novel relic as soon as it first came out.. i bought it because i
liked the picture on the book cover and ended up a huge fan...

i have read every book they have published since... buying them
on the first day they hit the shelves.... so the old saying about how
you can;t judge books by their covers didn;t come true where these

authors were concerned... at least not with that first book....
*side note... i probably would not have bought diablo mesa based on

this cover shown below.... but the cover on the first edition of relic
was pretty awesome.....

......................
then the most recent one, which i first read years ago, was
the last duel... by eric jager... which is based on a true
account involving the last sanctioned trial by combat in
medieval europe..... but then i read it again this year after
seeing the movie to check out how well the movie followed
the book... .. and as it turned out the movie followed this book
better than any book inspired movie i have ever seen... it;s a good
study of how the justice system worked in medieval europe..specifically
on accusations of rape in which there was no evidence.. no eye witnesses
and 3 different versions of the story... the wife.. the accused.. and the husband
of the accuser... ...both the book and the movie are graphic so it;s not for everybody

I ordered it, and if it is good, I will buy more. Like I said, I collected Louis L'Amour books for years and had all of them, based on my 1985 recollection that John R. Rice said in a Sword article that he had a collection of them. Hence, they must be acceptable to a young impressionable christian like me. (tongue in cheek)
Louis L'Amour and Jim Conover are two that I read. Jim is an old family friend. He's written many Western books, plays, and movies.

The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief by Francis Collins

Educated by Tara Westover

Christ and Culture by Richard Niebuhr

this is the next one i;m waiting for.... which will be published june 28th
.... it;s a story based on the american revolution and follows 2 sides of
one family each of whom are fighting on opposite sides.. i already know
the american family side are farmers/plantation owners.... and i;m
assuming the british side are officers of the british navy - as characters
in wilbur smith novels involving that family line generally tend to be in
the upper classes of where ever they end up, or in whatever century
they are placed..... ..but i won;t know until the book comes out and
i actually find time to read it..... i still haven;t finished the last 2
books i bought late last year - one of which is a wilbur smith book..

.

i have always enjoyed wilbur smith books... but sadly... as i pointed
out in the previous post.
.. this will be his last as he passed away
earlier this year.... his first novel was published in 1964...
"when the lion feeds"... and ironically... though i have
a hardbound copy of it
- it;s one of the few wilbur smith
books i have never read... or ever even started to read

Just for fun and inspiration in writing another children's book, I'm reading "The Christmas Gift," an old-schoolastic book. Also rereading "Brighty Of The Grand Canyon," another scholastic book from years gone by.
