While at HAC those who sang were taught to hold a microphone a certain way.  They were taught to stand a certain way.  This was also practiced at FBCH.  Here is the topic of discussion for this thread.  When someone is singing a special in church, how should they "behave"?  Do you have a problem with the tapping of the foot?  The raising of a hand?  Swaying?  Does it matter how the microphone is held?

What say ye, Hacker Nation?

Excessive body movement can distract from the song and direct attention to the singer. But some simple hand gestures or the spontaneous tapping of a toe will probably not sent anyone to hell. :)

We should sing with our lips, not with our hips.  :o

Microphones need to be held according to what type of microphone they are.

I believe slight hand movement is ok, as long as it does not distract from the message of the song. Toe tapping- same thing.

Years ago, I went to a special meeting at a friend's church. My then 6 or 7 year old niece  was sitting next to me. The male soloist started to sing, and was loving all over the microphone while he sang mostly with his eyes closed and his face and head moving back ans forth. My niece asked if he were blind.  He wasn't, but he sure was distracting .

My favorite story happened at a revival meeting.  Tony Hudson was the final preacher.  Steve Curington from Reformers Unanimous was there with a ladies' singing group from the ladies home.  The ladies were singing and doing a great job.  There were "Amens" ringing throughout the building.  A couple of them started to slightly sway as they sang.  Curington yelled out, "Stop swaying".  The ladies finished singing and Curington told the crowd that most of these ladies came from a rough background, and they were working with them on being proper.

Well, you probably know Tony Hudson.  When he got up to preach he had the ladies group stand.  He told them how much of a blessing they had been and then ended it by saying, "Ladies, don't lose your swagger!".  Curington just shook his head with a smile on his face.

Tony Hutson sang George Jones's "He Stopped Loving Her Today" when I heard him preach.

Two weeks ago I was watching and listening to him preach at the Pastor's Conference in California.  He said that Sweet Home Alabama should be in the hymn book.  The place lost it.  :)

I think he is a silent owner in the Shakey's restaurant.

I don't understand why he has the reputation that he does...

IFBX'ers have to have a wild man...........kinda like pro-wrestlers have their big-mouth, show-off, crude-talking, animated, attack-those-who-may-go-liberal-&-think-for-themselves, comedy-clown.

Others would label me as IFBx, and I'm fine with that, but his reputation with me is not favorable.  I'very heard him <handful of times. Once was enough,  but I gave him a second and maybe a third chance. That was more than 10 years ago.

No matter what a singer does, it should be natural and "real", not manufactured fake emotions.

If you are truly happy, look and act happy while you sing.  If you are moved by true emotion, let it show.  Tears can be real and should not be suppressed.  If your spirit is being lifted by the Holy Spirit, raise your hand, shuffle your feet, or shout an AMEN during the song.

I am against anything that promotes phoniness or stifles sincerity.

My daughter has a good singing voice, and I love to hear her sing.  At home, sometimes, a song well "get" to her emotionally and she chokes up and cannot continue.  I don't think that is appropriate for a church special. I prefer that she not sing a song if she cannot get through it properly.

I've seen people break down during songs; and I don't find it a blessing.

Just how I feel about this issue.

As long as they have a keyboard in front of them and posting on the FFF, it doesn't matter how Bapticostal they get!

I don't like wax dummies.  I like to listen to people who are aware of what they are singing.

I find raising a hand to be distracting; as I do swaying.

I think it matters how a microphone is held; I want to be able to see the singer's face, not a microphone.  I'm sure that there is a proper distance/angle (or maybe a range of such) to best pick up a voice.

If you find movement distracting, the raising of the hand distracting, emotions off-putting, the holding of the microphone at the exact angle to be paramount, yet you do not want "wax dummies" -- how on earth can a singer pull things off to your standards?

This is the kind of stuff I completely don't understand.  He will sing this vile song behind a pulpit, yet, a women in pants.....................ah forget it!
