I'm not, nor have I ever been, IFB, so I really don't have a dog in this fight. So of course, having said that....

IMHO, the validity of his argument went out the window the second he called IFBs stupid. No matter how many verses he could quote, I would read his post through the lens of him insulting others who just happen to not agree with him and I just wouldn't be able to take him as seriously as I'm sure he'd want to be.

So an insult changed everything I said? Did Jesus every insult anyone?

Honest question. Be a honest man and give me a honest answer?

No. Jesus did not insult anyone, ever. He rebuked them. Corrected them. Pointed out their hypocrisy. But He did not insult them. Were they insulted? Perhaps, but that was on them, not Jesus.

This is a true story.  Only the names have been redacted to protect the innocent.  ;)

A friend of mine relates a tale concerning her 1st grade daughter who attends a Christian school.  "Mommy, my teacher said the "s" word today."  My friend's ears pricked right up.  "Oh?  What did she say?", hoping beyond hope that it wasn't that word...Her daughter replied in a whisper, "She said stupid".

My friend did all she could not to laugh, because her daughter had a point, but in context, the teacher did not call any person stupid.  She identified a certain action as stupid, which was perfectly true.

But let this cautionary tale be a little reminder to those of us who indiscriminately use the word "stupid".  This little girl had the right of it.  It truly is "the s word", when it's applied to individual people!

How I feel doesn't matter.

I realize that people don't like being called "stupid". However, have you ever stopped to think just why that is? Do you think "pride" and "self worth" have anything to do with it?

I can say that I have been rather stupid in my life. I was glad when someone told me I was and just how I was being stupid.

I'm an Independent Fundamental Baptist. I have been one since the day I was born again.

Explain to me how that makes me "stupid"?

Excellent. Excellent.

I mean......I've never heard anyone...... EVER...... say they had been a IFB since the day "they was born again"

Usually..... I find those who have just been saved by Christ.... talking about their Master and not the SLAVES that pointed them to  Christ".

Thanks for confirming my 3 period. See OP.

Simple question.

Which is worse. Pointing out the fact that someone is being "stupid" or pointing out someone is a "whited sepulchres"?

I have perfect verse for you to disseminate for me. Just one. Please do you best to rectify what you've written above in relation to this verse.

Rom 16:18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Please pay attention to the fact I've used the KJV. I'm doing my best to play on your own playing field.

After this..... We can take trip into proverbs if you like....

That is assuming he wanted to be taken seriously as opposed to just using the forum as a place to rant or vent.

I tell you what. I'll be glad to have a dedicated debate concerning this subject. The moderator can remove any language you find offensive and I will not say a thing.

You up for it?

Wow I didn't know I was stupid ..........I know I'm not stupid for choosing to be IFB . This is a way of life for me. I would never call someone else stupid even if I was thinking it.......I'm sorry you think we are stupid but you may have put some nuts in the same bowl but we are not stupid.

Sure you are Sherry. I was stupid for every being a part of IFBdum. I'm not saying anything in this forum that I haven't told myself in the past. You maybe offended........ GOOD. You should be.

Jesus said "offenses must need come". You should do yourself a favor and study just why Jesus used these words. I lost friends..... People I loved and still love when I abandoned your cult to embrace the truth. I know you think you're not the same but you are.

Just let me tell you why.

You IFBs constantly berate those that have left your ranks. You allow you pastors to stand their pulpits and ridicule those that love Christ all the time. All the time. Week in. Week out. You.... Sherry. YOU.... sit there and let it happen. In fact, you probabily...(like a good cult member) sit there and say Amen. Maybe you don't realize what's going on.... but let me make it clear for you.

You've been offended by my words...... Yet. Your pastors condemn me and those like me.... and you don't do anything. Anything. Nothing. I've given biblical reasons why your ways offend me. They are offensive to others. Those that could care less about what someone thinks.

When your pastor stand in their pulpits and claim Jesus is a Baptist. That offends me. It offends me when you pastors stand in pulpits and say that if they weren't a "baptist".... they'd be ashamed. It offends me as a Christian to here your leaders twisting the Scriptures to the point that you're blind to these things.

So... you're not the only one that is offended. Maybe you should have a talk with your leaders and apply the same standards you applied to me above.... TO THEM. Stop being a coward.

I think there is merit to the three arguments posted. The battles would occur between the X'ers and the non-X'ers in the IFB world over the extent of isolation/separation. But the folks that would argue these levels would own cars and homes just like the world, have all the modern conveniences just like the world, would love sports just like the world. Well you understand.

If you don't think #3 has merit all you have to do is look at all the IFB fractions. I am of Hyles, I am of Robertson, I am of Sexton, I am of Gray etc...

Now could it have been worded in a better way, sure. But the toxicity of the post does not diminish the merit of the argument just how well it is received.

They shouldn't be offended. They really shouldn't. They have always wore ridicule as a "bag of honor". I don't see why they shouldn't just accept it and praise Jesus for having received ridicule for being a "baptist". I mean..... Jesus was criticized for being a "baptist" himself....

As to the merits of my points..... They can't defend themselves. They can't. That is why they have chosen to focus on being offended. Their sword is dull and their senses have been decimated by their hypocrisies.

I'm not offended in the least, more like filled with pity, like I was for phred phelps.

Proverbs 14:17  He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

Proverbs 29:22  An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

Please do not think you offended me. I would hate for you tobe burdened by thinking you had that power.  Instead, you made me chuckle and enjoy the absurdity of you thinking you know all about all IFBs. As we say in the South, bless your heart.

Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't sound very furious.  I attended two IFB churches in my time, and they were pretty bad, but I don't know about how that works out in generalities.  But if he's right about IFBs, then IFBs are pretty stupid.  The statement "I've been IFB since I was born again" is pretty stupid, IMO.  I don't remember who said it, and I don't feel like scrolling back through the thread, but I hope that's not really how he/she identifies himself/herself.

You belong to IFB? Good for you.

I belong to the body of Christ.

Big difference.

By all means.... explain the difference?

Just how does a offense come if its not given? You're creating a distinction where none exists.

I chalked the insult up to social inadequacy!

For a man that's left the IFB "movement".... you sure do defend them every chance you get. I once thought you might be different.... but I'm beginning to think you're really not.

Tell you what. Same challenge. I'll participate in a formal debate with you about this very subject. A moderator can edit anything they find offensive.

Up for it?

If it's sanctimonious to identify with Christ, then I'm happily sanctimonious.

The question is how much overlap is there between those who belong to IFB and those who belong to Christ?

I don't have an answer, but the answer is "not a whole lot" according to some IFBs (the ones on here who have suggested that 20-40% of their church is made up of unbelievers).
