No, I am saying that it appears that from your contempt and revulsion of their disgusting sin that you are unwilling to allow them the privilege of fellowship in the here and now. In heaven, there will be no lack of harmony or unity.“you might start working on those implications in the here and now.”
So, if I don’t do it now are you saying I will have a difficult time do that in heaven?
Do you think those temptations go away for the Christian when they are outside of the assembly?@ALAYMAN On the membership idea.
Yeah sure bring them in and put their temptations in front of them every week. Sounds like a great idea!!
If someone is on a diet they don’t bring donuts home.
“privilege of fellowship”No, I am saying that it appears that from your contempt and revulsion of their disgusting sin that you are unwilling to allow them the privilege of fellowship in the here and now. In heaven, there will be no lack of harmony or unity.
Nope! And that’s my point.Do you think those temptations go away for the Christian when they are outside of the assembly?
Because they are Christians.“privilege of fellowship”
Why should these people be given that?
Nope! And that’s my point.
Are you willing to have these people lusting after your young boys and girls?
I totally understand your thoughts, and I think others will heed your warning.i don;t think you realize what you are asking.... ... i also wonder if you are not aware that the accounts of women and children being abused by members of church leadership within the IFB have been told here before....many times... . ...and in every case the trolls attacked... .... people within those churches who knew the accused offenders also attacked with a vengeance... . some of those attackers are still on this forum.....
years ago i posted on the older forums of the things that happened to me as a child.... ...things that did not even involve a preacher or any member of the IFB ... ... i told about crimes committed by a family member and her clients all of whom were tried - convicted - and sent to prison........ most people on the forum at that time were sympathetic and supportive.. .. but a few were not..... ..... i was called used garbage and damaged goods by some and told i should be permanently locked in a psych ward and never let out by others..... none of whom even knew the people or perpetrators i was talking about... ...
the thing i am concerned about is if women abused by people and leaders in the church come here and tell their stories here.... and tell those stories to people here who know the people being accused... the abuse they get from the trolls and defenders of the accused on the forum will be far worse than anything i experienced.... ...even people who don;t know the accused person but due to the circumstances is able to sympathize with them in some way will attack...
it;s better for the victims if they go to law enforcement and professional counsellors and tell of their experiences there.... .. and insist that when and if the reports are released their names are kept private...
good people will always want to see a perpetrator get burned... ... but few realize that in doing so... (if they don;t do it right)... they can cause the victim to be burned along with them...... ...it;s not worth it.......
I’ll wait till I get to heaven and be as spiritually mature as you.Because they are Christians.
Your attitude and intent so far has shown you intend to do nothing less. Long on retribution, vengeance, and judgment. Short on rightly divided Scripture, the gospel, and forgiveness. As I’ve said earlier, you’re in plentiful company within cultural Christianity.I’ll wait till I get to heaven and be as spiritually mature as you.
“within cultural Christianity.”Your attitude and intent so far has shown you intend to do nothing less. Long on retribution, vengeance, and judgment. Short on rightly divided Scripture, the gospel, and forgiveness. As I’ve said earlier, you’re in plentiful company within cultural Christianity.
Yes sir, it would. ALL these kinds of things should be handled first and foremost at the church level, followed by the legal, etc.But doesn’t the notion of rebuking those who persist in sin denote that there’s credible knowledge of that sin? And wouldn’t that context be within the authority and structure of the church?
WE are to forgive, but that doesn't mean we have to remain in fellowship with the person or persons involved. We forgive because Christ forgave us, and it's clear that if WE don't forgive, then he won't forgive us.Can a molester be forgiven by God? How about forgiven by you?
I think that you’re looking to use the Bible to back up what you want to believe, rather than letting the Bible inform your values/ethics/morals, at least to some extent (for this issue). I understand your revulsion at the extreme heinous depravity of this particular sin, and truth be told, it ranks at the top of my list as crimes/sin that disgust me the most, but I have to weigh my beliefs in the crucible of God’s word and the totality of the gospel, not my personal beliefs.“within cultural Christianity.”
When it comes to my view sexual predators?
Yes, as I said very recently in this thread (you may have not read that far yet), the victim within the congregation would be prioritized so as not to cause further pain and trauma by being forced to choose between church attendance vs the congregation having a former pedophile in attendance.WE are to forgive, but that doesn't mean we have to remain in fellowship with the person or persons involved. We forgive because Christ forgave us, and it's clear that if WE don't forgive, then he won't forgive us.
I agree that Brent Stevens and aleshanee have shown great courage in sharing their stories. My ex-girlfriend, high school sweetheart, was groomed by a youth worker and then also a Christian school teacher. It came down to discovery on my part when it came to the youth worker. She babysat for this youth worker and his wife, and he was a longtime family friend on her part. He had been grooming her for several months, and then when she had babysat on a Saturday night, it was far too late for him to take her home early Sunday morning (2AM). He went and got her a blanket and pillow and started to make up the sofa for her bed, and then he finally made his move when he knew his wife was asleep. It went on for five months. It was then that I discovered something was wrong with my girlfriend. She was nervous, upset, and was sick at her stomach from stress, though at the time she thought she might be pregnant. It was then that she told me. After the church service, I met the man in the foyer of the church and confronted him after his wife had gone to their car. I asked him if it was true, and he acknowledged it was. I told him that she thought she might be pregnant, and that if he hadn't told his wife before the evening service that I WOULD! He told his wife, and that ended most of that. When I told the pastor what was going on he shut me down, telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. He also refused to talk to the people involved. He did the same when the Christian school teacher, also a youth worker, had taken my girlfriend home without a chaperone. I walked in on him groping her in the corner when she was helping him as his assistant. Again, the pastor shot me down and told me to mind my own business. His son is a well-known IFB writer and KJVO advocate. The thing that finally caught this school teacher up was when he tried to spy on some teenage girls who were using the bathroom in the cornfield during detassling season. He was FINALLY dismissed from his job, and his wife divorced him. But, he was sent to another Baptist church....sound familiar?I totally understand your thoughts, and I think others will heed your warning.
I also think it takes great courage to tell personal stories. Brent Stevens is in the back of my mind when I encourage others to tell their stories. I realize I'm often angry at the men involved, but in doing so, I have felt that some wives and other family members may know more and are tight-lipped. I think a person who has been abused, etc., should definitely talk to the police.
I have witnessed your undeniable courage, alshanee. You have been through a lot. I admire you a great deal.
