I also started on Sartoris by William Faulkner and Part 2 of Faust by Goethe, but got hung up on them. Longer than I expected in both cases.

Just finished "Nixon, a Life"

I learned a lot. I was 10 when the Watergate break in occurred. The names were all familiar but I didn't really know their rolls in the matter.

my dad was 16 when that happened.... . . he said the day nixons resignation was broadcast live on television he was leaving the house with a friend to go fishing... .. he said his grandfather yelled at them from the living room and said.... "hey!... you boys need to come watch this.... this is history!... "... ...........of course they didn;t.... they left and went fishing.. ... ......he said he watched the reruns of it later on tv - of which there was no shortage of.....

looking at video clips now with what i know of medical science... and seeing nixons face and the way his color changed - i think it;s a wonder he didn;t have a heart attack mid-speech... ..

that;s a ton of reading for one month... .. or at least it would be for me...
i tend to read really slow... ... if i try to pick up the pace like a speed reader
would i end up with very poor retention of what i have read... ..even worse

retention if my reading has to be broken up by other things and i can;t get
back to it immediately.... i end up with books stacked up i intend to read
...and if they are part of a series i end up way behind in it..... ..

i just finished a book i started over 6 months ago... pendergast - the beginning
...... and had to restart it a few times due to having to put it down for extended periods
of time.... and not remembering enough of what i had already read when i restarted it....

i just ordered this book which will be released in january 2027..... .not planning on starting

anything major before then as thanksgiving and christmas plans in this household will
keep me busy enough... ....but at least i;m all caught up with this series for now.....

Not as much as it looks. I've set a goal of reading one novel a week since university (over and above my required reading). More recently I got into the habit of reading a play on Saturdays while eating breakfast, which is quite a bit shorter than even a short novel.

As a result I read about 8-10 titles a month, of varying lengths. Plenty of time to read when you're riding the bus, or trying to sleep. It's my main form of entertainment.

Not familiar with the authors. Good series? I tend to read mostly science fiction and thrillers--I make time every October for the newest Jack Reacher novel, for example.

i would never be able to read that way... ... though i wish i could.. . .i have a specific place i go to read that is comfortable.... and i get coffee and whatever snacks i am hungry for ready and in place before i start.. ... then once into a book i tend to lose track of time and can stay there for hours... .

i think they are great authors..... most of their books are a combination of science fiction - thriller and adventure all in one.... each has a number of independant novels in print... but their best works are joint efforts.. .. ..here is the link to their website....

... their first book together came out in 1995... the relic.... .. but the first one of their books that i read is called - mount dragon... which a professor recommended when i was in college... ...

after that i went back and read the first one and then all the rest that had been published up to that point in order... ... when i caught up i started buying and reading them as soon as they were published.... ..at one time i had a whole shelf lined with hardcover copies of their works.... but a lot of those are in boxes in storage now... .. i ran out of space on the shelves....

Thanks. Just reading their bios was entertaining. I'm going to stick Relic on my list. I have an eight-hour bus ride home for Christmas, and that's the sort of book I take with me for the ride. (I've been doing Mark Greaney's Gray Man series and Andrew Klavan's Cameron Winter books on the round trip in recent years, but I caught up on the latter, so I need something new.)
