Having said that:
"A pastor who shares his vision for his church often makes the mistake of sharing a vision of his own ministry rather than the church. A vision for your church is the for the people, not for yourself".  - Jack Hyles

Says the pastor who passed on his pulpit to his son-in-law. To be fair, I don't know that Hyles knew Jacky Jr. would turn out to be twice the son of hell that he was. But if the church is for the people and not for yourself, why take step 1 in creating a dynasty?

Hyles' quotation isn't particularly profound, but his hypocrisy is. This is part of the reason it's impossible to take the man seriously as an icon.

True, also one of his major tenets, by claim, was:

"Don't use your people to build your work, use your work to build your people"

I do not know what this man could have done to more effectively accomplish the exact opposite.

The OP didn't state it had to be a quote or saying he actually followed....:D

More than an icon. He's practically an idol to some people.

"God couldn't have done all of this without me"

Okay, I made that up.  ;)

What the Hyles does that even mean?

It's kind of like "You can't have your cake and eat it too"---who would want a cake you can't eat, I mean really!

Your guess is as good as mine. Apparently, Hyles followers thought it was profound.

There was a weird teaching/belief at HAC/FBCH that God had some sort of scale that balanced suffering against success and that some suffered that others could succeed. I have heard entire sermons teaching this universal balance of joy and suffering and remember when Judson Mitchell's son, in his Valedictorian speech, read a poem he had written and dedicated to his disabled sister entitled "You suffered that I could succeed".  This is another one of those Hylesisms that stuck and was passed down.

Some might argue that it was Hyles own spin on "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy", which may be more palatable but less accurate in my opinion.

To set the record straight, Hyles didn't pass the pulpit on to anyone, and taught a series of seven lessons on why not, and how to search for the next church-king.
He went so far as to say that he had given up on JS, and that he would have no part in recommending the next man.

I know you really don't care, but those are the facts.

This is true... Schaaps stories of the death bed transfer of the "mantel" are pure fabrication.  There was very little time between Hyles arrival at UOC and his surgery where he would have been able to do such a thing. Visitation was very short even with family, he was heavily medicated, practically comatose, to prevent further damage to his heart before the surgery.

When Schaap would say such a thing like that, I could see a raised eye brow from those that were there.

So you are saying that we should file "I want Jack Schaap to run things when I'm gone" as one of Jack Hyles'  most famous non sayings.

What prophet said was accurate. If JH did say such a thing, it either never happened or was well before his "how-to" series.

If you really want his quotes, just by the book:  "A Voice, A Vessel"

"The pellet of poison is in the voice that's a vessel but the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true."

Not Jack Hyles
