Says the pastor who passed on his pulpit to his son-in-law. To be fair, I don't know that Hyles knew Jacky Jr. would turn out to be twice the son of hell that he was. But if the church is for the people and not for yourself, why take step 1 in creating a dynasty?
Hyles' quotation isn't particularly profound, but his hypocrisy is. This is part of the reason it's impossible to take the man seriously as an icon.
True, also one of his major tenets, by claim, was:
"Don't use your people to build your work, use your work to build your people"
I do not know what this man could have done to more effectively accomplish the exact opposite.
