KJV class at Bible college

Bg, we want to know if you think your current pastor is goofy or not?

I don't know that BKW's current pastor would agree with most of BKW's posts.  Just a guess.

I have discussed this matter with the current pastor and he would not say that the KJV is the only Word of God. He is not what I would define as KJVO like Riplinger or Ruckman.

So no he is not goofy he is not KJVO.

I happen to like the KJV also, and use it as my main English scripture text, I am in no way KJVO.

So are you saying that Wilkerson is ok with church members using other versions?  Is he ok with Sunday School teachers correcting the KJV in their class?  If he is not KJVO he would probably be ok with these, correct?

Thank you!

Also, Radiar, you have to say, English speaking people, or he will skate around your question. It's like he doesn't even realize the church he attends.

This guy is so anti IFB he boggles my mind that he can stay where he is.

I have been shouting this for months on the HAC FFF.  He was a deacon during Dr. Hyles' pastorate.  He was a deacon during Schaap's pastorate.  Now all of a sudden he can tell you of all the evils during all of those years.  He is critical of most things IFB.

Right!  Does he even realize the church he attends. I mean really, think about it.

I think I'm beginning to understand him. He speaks respectfully of his current leadership - until that leadership is gone at which point he tells the entire world that he violently disagreed with 95% of what they did.

I am incredibly thankful I am not his pastor...

What most of you that came 'through for a few' don't realize is that FBCH was not born in IFB era , and was not IFB until a disgruntled Southern Baptist invented hisown version of IFB from our pulpit.

The people BGW's age (not him, he is a disillusioned Hyles fanatic) have a different beliefs set than any pastor they've had since Rev. Miller.

Of course, they're gone now, mostly, but many of their families are much more balanced than Hyles or Schaap were, suprisingly wise, and with a good business head on their shoulders.

I can tell you that my Father, who was on the Deacon Board for many years, is not now, nor was he ever KJO.
This causes some tension, because he views me as KJO, FTR.

He speaks respectfully of his current leadership while through his posts he disagrees with them.  He'd be great to have in your congregation.

Wow this has taken a disappointing turn. I'll try to be as kind as possible,...

If someone from FBC says nothing then they are a kool aid drinker, brain washed or "should have stood up and said something".

This is a discussion forum isn't it? A guy opines on a thread, regretfully reflects back on the years gone by and tries to be honest and now gets slammed for it?

I'll say this,... If you weren't/aren't here it's hard to understand what a good number of good people are going through. For some there is a real struggle to look back objectively now and look forward objectively.

I was a defender of Schaap back when, and tried to be fair and honest in my defense of him. But it came to a point where I couldn't defend what was going on anymore. That's a TOUGH crossroads to find yourself at. It's an internal struggle, but I think an honest one.

I don't know BG but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. If this makes me a bad guy in your eyes then okay.

smh.

You missed the whole point, what you are saying is wrong.

Bg, said that, ppl that r KJVO are goofy, so I asked him if his current pastor is goofy?

Then he tries to skate around the whole question I asked and says, u will needs to ask him. When he said that he had already spoke with JW about this. And goes on about how in other languages the bible boa, bla, bla.

When you know I know and he knows JW, is KJVO a for the English speaking ppl.
Therefore bg says his CURRENT PASTOR IS GOOFY. WE said nothing about the past.

I typed all this on my phone so excuse all the well u know.

In the early 90's I had Grady for Contemporary Theology. The vast majority of the class contained the material that later became his book Final Authority. It is one of the few classes of academic or doctrinal substance I had at HAC.

I took this class too. I enjoyed his teaching style. Some found it erratic, jumping from one subject to another but to me it resemble a conversation style type thing. As in when talking with a friend we don't generally go "point A, point B,...". Once I got used to it I enjoyed it and went along for the ride so to speak. I looked forward to his KJVO lecture. One weird point that stuck out was the "7 sealed book" and how the leather cover of our Bibles had 7 "ribs" on it or whatever you call it. I enjoyed his stories and his transparency.

Towards the end I'm not sure what happened between him and the college.

He said if Christians would study we wouldn't have so much goofy KJVO things taught. That is different than saying all KJVO are goofy.

Right so, if JW would study, which is his current pastor. What is he saying about his KJVO (for the English speaking people) current pastor?

He's saying exactly what he said...

While I was at HAC, I was always told that the KJV is the only Bible we should use. It's kind of sad that I never had a class about it. Did any of you in the previous generations at HAC have a class on the KJV?
HAC wasn't KJVO until the 90's.

One of the best books written on the issue, was written by a HAC professor.
"Final Authority", by William P. Grady.

You're kidding - I purchased that book at the recommendation of my pastor, back when I thought HAC was great.

The first part was standard KJV defense of merely attacking the character of those that believed differently, and then, somewhere in the 2nd half, he became entirely conspiracy whacko.  It completely undermined the little credibility he had built up for me in the first part.

Terrible!

A little "clarity" on Ruckman.  Taken from his commentary of Luke, page 4.

Ruckman%20Luke_zpseyjpqhhp.jpg
And he here admits the error that the KJV was indeed, given by inspiration, and THAT is contrary to the Scripture. God's revelation was finished with the book of Revelation, and He did NOT give us more books by inspiration. What I believe is that God preserved His word down through time, not that he re-gave (re-inspired) the Scriptures to man.

I respect your opinion - but the utter whacky conspiracy nonsense in Final Authority completely removed his credibility for me.

Can you (or someone) clarify what is mean by "correcting the KJV"?

I think it is presumptuous to say "the KJV translators were wrong here"

I don't have a problem at all with staying "The word in Greek is X, which has the meaning of ..."

Nor do I have a problem with "This word in the KJV is obsolete. A modern equivalent would be..."

Explaining that "baptize" is a transliteration of the Greek word is fine also.

I am incredibly thankful I am not his pastor...

Or at least his ex-pastor  ;D

I was concerned about this statement, because I have been highly critical of the HAC pastor, who seemed to blindly follow all of the worst things regarding Jack Hyles (as documented in the wonderful 39 Years message).  Because it was taught that the pastor is untouchable (like Elisha), I would not criticize him.  But I've always tried to be respectful to those with whom I disagree. But I think I am correct in criticizing this man.

I have had five ex-pastors; two I hold in very high esteem; a third I remember fondly (my first pastor); fourth that I rarely think about; the fifth I talked about enough.

Could you at least identify with more clarity (By initials even) who you are talking about in the above statement.

No; it's nobody anyone would know - just another pastor who blindly followed Jack Hyles, and adopted the worst practices.  God eventually opened my eyes to the errors and led me away.  Who it is doesn't matter.
