An explanation of the magic blood theory.

Fundamentalists and the "Incorruptible" Blood of Christ

I think I mispoke earlier in the thread. I think it is DeHaan I read that believed in that not McGee.

...my memory stinks anymore.  :o

Yes, that was taught on the Radio Bible Class, by M. R. DeHaan.  :) :)

My family listened to him on the radio regularly in the 40s and 50s.

I remember a couple of trips to Grand Rapids to stock up on literature that my folks distributed as part of their church planting ministry. I do not remember meeting him personally.

He was a very captivating Bible teacher.

He wrote a book called "The Chemistry of the Blood", wherein he presented his version of the magic blood theory.

I still have copies of it as it was one of the books my folks distributed.

Bro. Hyles of course was very familiar with him as well.

Noted. I read that the "doctrine" of the blood preserved eternally fresh upon the altar in heaven was not to  be found in any message anywhere until it came out to "get" McArthur.  I believe that people for a long time believed that Jesus presented His blood at the heavenly altar, but did J. Vernon McGee say that it was preserved fresh?

I don't think he used the word 'fresh' but he clearly believed in Jesus' physical blood literally being on the Mercy Seat in the Temple in Heaven.

Thank you.

I still have my source material, and perhaps I'll look up the exact details.  For now, my memory is that after McArthur stated that he thought Jesus' blood ran down to the ground and mixed with the dirt, and that nothing else happened, certain big names suddenly began preaching an essential doctrine that Jesus presented His blood in heaven, and it is still preserved there.  The accusation was that for such an "essential" doctrine, it is odd that it didn't appear in any preaching until after the McArthur issue arose.

Any one recall the bus parade in downtown Chicago?  That was something else.  Nobody in the city understood what was happening.

I have a book by MR DeHaan called 'Portraits of Christ in Genesis'. Read it many times and I love it!
