Racial Dating Policies at Bible Colleges

They sure seem to think that sock-sorting is very, very important.

As I stated previously, they have defined dating so broadly as to prohibit even friendly discussions between people of opposite races and gender.

Given that there's a few thousand other options for college in the U.S.- nearly all of which libertinism can be practiced with abandon- I wouldn't get my knickers in a bunch over a handful that actually have some rules.

If you don't like the rules, don't go there.

No, it's about them hiding behind "parental consent" to mask their racism. But hey, it's ok to date high school girls without parental consent, right?

And parental consent is not confined to fundamentalist schools.
We had a similar rule at Liberty when I was there, I believe...don't know what it is now.
And the SBC college my youngest daughter attended required parental consent for dating of any kind!

But it's ok to date high school girls right? But need mommy and daddy's permission to date out of race? Even though they are adults. You can die for country, but get parents permission to date a person of color? Got it  ;D

I used those exact words in a meeting with the administration at HAC.

I reminded them that
1. I hadn't come to HAC from "home",
  I had joined the Marines, been jailed, and went through rehab before attending. 
I was old enough to die for my country.
I was old enough to do time for my crime.
I was old enough to decide my schedule and choice of off-campus activity without a "parental consent form".

2.  My "home" no longer existed.
  My parents divorced while I was away, and both lived in a house that I had never visited.

3. No one had signed my application forms except me.

4. I, not my parents, had hired them, and I wanted my money's worth, and to be left alone the rest of the time.

Needless to say, I often had to secure "special permission" from then on, without hassle, but annoying in principle.

Blew my mind, the first time I tried to by cigarettes without an I.D., when I was still in The Marines...they were ok with me going to The Middle East, but not with me smoking.

First, thank you for your service to this country. You have my utmost respect in this regard.

Second, although I am a teetotaler, I do believe it is a double-standard to ask an eighteen year-old to go and possibly lay down his life for his country but then tell him that he's too young to drink.

Why is this being tolerated?

The above is an excerpt from Crown College's dating policy in their handbook. Notice that college students are allowed to date high school juniors, yet interracial dating requires written permission (and verbal confirmation!) by both sets of parents.

And in this West Coast Baptist College memo interracial dating is referred to as Exotic Dating and listed under the heading Unequally Yoked.

Funny stuff.  Kinda backs up what I have always thought.  Most people who attend these IFBx skools, are very immature, both intellectually and spiritually. How could someone attend an institution with such silly rules?  Bible should be the center of attention (which would make most the rules unnecessary), not some crazy man-made rules. Hard to make this stuff up.

What I have learned in this thread:

If you join the Marines at 18 you are a mature adult and can date anyone you want without your parent's permission.

If you go to Bible College at 18 you are no where near an adult, immature and must have mommy and daddy approve of your dating choice (if they are significantly darker or lighter than you).

If you join the Marines and then go to Bible College all that maturity you had is now gone and you must go back to getting mommy and daddy to approve all of your choices.

Pretty darn simple.
