Ahh...you are of the "there are only two options" persuasion...

Ahh...just referencing this:
r2: I can count the number of Democrats I have voted for on one finger. That doesn't change the fact that you are being selective in your moral outage of societal sins.

Didn't figure you for the Liberterian or write in vote waster....[/quote]

As a political lemming, you must do the status quo proud. I would suggest you read a history books on political parties in American history. And,  you probably don't want to hear this as a political lemming, but the ones who are running things they way that are want you to believe there are only two options. You don't think the elephants and donkeys have a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" attitude when it comes to protecting their own power, especially when it comes to allowing for third parties.

I just assumed you were the political lemming...quoting the straw man mantra:
Yet you are fine with politicians who want to victimize the widow, ignore the orphan, create injustice for the weak, and oppress the poor...

You a low information voter?

You can all hate my guts, but I have written in every vote for National office that I have ever cast.

The fact that you choose to intentionally misrepresent little old me when you have nothing to gain makes me wonder if because of your profession, you misrepresent God because you have everything to lose...

Actually, yes. Your selection of choosing the opposition of gay rights over opposition to materialism, civil rights for everyone and unnecessary accumulation of wealth is evidence of that selection.

Um . . . how much accumulation of wealth is "unnecessary," and who decides this?

And that, friends, is a good question in which the answer I guess would be relative.

When Jesus told the parable about the man with the storehouses full and building new barns, He didn't give a specific answer but sure did mention it in general terms.

Nope. Low information voters tend to think there are only two options and generally only focus on one or two issues that matter. ;)

So I'm not the only one who sees the conflict of interest in many discussions?

Relative to what, and since the question was raised in a thread about politics, why is it the business of government, or for that matter, anyone but Jesus?

No....you say you vote mostly  Republican, but constantly bash them here.
Again, what you think about my representation of Scripture is not a matter of concern for me...at all. You do offer a backhanded insult to anyone who might call me Pastor, but I'm good with that if you are. :)

Low information voters recite inane cliches like

Get a clue and call me in November!

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Relative to the individual.

The thread is about politics and Christianity. The accumulation of wealth without distribution is not a Christian principle.

I would also contend that government restriction of income is wrong as well. To me, that would seem to be a violation of human rights. I would liken government interference in a restriction of earnings as the same idea as their interference by having restriction in who can marry whom. ;)

To quote a famous Republican, "Well, there you go again." Where did I say I voted "mostly Republican", specifically in present days? I grew up a hardcore Republican and used to vote party lines but specifically in the last two elections, I have begun to vote away from the Republicans as a party and more to the position of less government restrictions. Though I did vote for two Republicans the last election (and no Dems), I voted "mostly independent" and there were some slots I left blank with no vote at all, which is a vote for I don't like any of the candidates.

And should you think I am insulting your parishioners, that thought never even entered my mind. If you perceive it to be an insult, I cannot control your perceptions.

I just forget their are Independent and Libertarian candidates and forget some do actually vote for them. But as long as you don't vote for the liberal Democrat (redundant, I know) I'm good with any Independent or Libertarian vote.
I will continue to vote MY conscience and conviction and you do the same....stick to the Ind and Libertarian and I'm happy for you!

To say that I misrepresent God in essence says that anyone who listens to me is too dumb to know the difference. Whether it entered your mind or not, isn't relevant.

...not issues you personally struggle with or ones that impact you in a significant way.  After all,  self-reflection concerning our own vices is a lot harder than being activists about the vices of others.

Neither do murder or armed robbery, but I'd never support a politican who wanted either to be legalized. ::)

*answering with the same logic you used.  ;)

No, I'm not.

Right or wrong, you are selective...as is everybody else who votes with a moral conscience.

Smellin, did you ever address this, I'm curious as to your answers.

Opposition to materialism?
What does that even mean?

Civil rights?
You consider moral perversion to be a civil right?

Where is an unnecessary accumulation of wealth?
What does that even mean?
An accumulation of wealth is NOT sin.

Other than on the issues of abortion and homosexuality, what else does the Republican Party stand for that is Christian?  I understand as Christians we are obligated to vote first and foremost on the two big cultural issues of our day, but it irritates me when Christians line up behind Republicans as if they are God's Own Party and that everything they do is anointed by God.  It irritates me when preachers will condemn people to hell if they don't vote Republican, yet the Republican Party supports some very un-Christian things once you take the focus off abortion and homosexuality.

To top it off, Republicans only talk about abortion and homosexuality when an election is coming up.  Despite what you hear from liberal talking-heads, America is becoming increasingly pro-life yet the Republicans do nothing about abortion once they get into power.  If it really was as important to them as they make it out to be when running for office, that would have been all you heard about in the news during the Bush Presidency.  It's only on homosexuality that public opinion has shifted far to the left.

In addition, the marriage between conservative Christianity and the Republican Party turns a lot of younger people away from the church and ultimately the Gospel.  I believe God is far more concerned with winning souls to Christ, helping the poor and needy, and other things Jesus led by example at than he is with electing Republicans to office in the United States.

A lot of Republican ideals may be hyper-patriotic, pro-big business, and American nationalist, but you can't say they are Christian.

The Democratic Party on the other hand panders the secularists, racial, and cultural minorities.  Their bread-and-butter however aren't the atheists running academia in America.  It is the working class, many of whom would likely consider themselves Christian but don't see abortion and homosexuality as the most important thing when they go to the ballot box and instead vote on the issues that affect them personally.
A few points:

1.  It's not just the top two issues (although they're very important). There's also the religious freedom issues (I don't want to fund abortifacients or be told that I am committing a hate crime when preaching the Bible - don't kid yourself. That's where we are heading with the current regime).
2.  Don't believe that Republicans are really that much better than the Democrats. But, at the very least, they'll act like Christians when trying to get elected or re-elected (with a few notable exceptions not being the rule).
3.  When it comes to morality, the Republicans are mostly libertarian whereas Democrats are openly hostile to Christianity. Do I expect the Republicans to become more hostile towards God in the years to come. Absolutely. You can't sit on the fence forever. But, right now, the Democrats are already there. Their hatred of God,  His Holy Word, and His people is plain to see.
