Give me a list of silly obc rules

Here are three quick ones of my memory from many a year ago

1.  No foul language unless you are Jim Vineyard preaching in OBC chapel
2.  No unapproved music,  unless you are Jim Vineyard in your Suburban
3.  No ....... (you fill in the dots)  unless you are Jim Vineyard

No facial hair.  Not a problem as a dress code for school, but silly for the members.

Silly for a school

Soul Winning
Soul winning is defined as confrontational witnessing to unsaved people.  All students are required to go soul winning every week.  Preacher boys are required to go soul winning a minimum of 5 hours a week.  All other students are required to go soul winning a minimum of 2 hours each week.  This requirement is in effect each semester and summer session for all students.
Required soul winning hours are to be done on Thursday or Saturday.  Any deviation from this rule must be approved by the student's department head or dorm supervisor.

Straight from the OBC Catalog:

STUDENT'S SPIRITUAL LIFE
Each student should schedule a time when he daily fellowships with God in prayer and reads His Word. Nothing should interfere with the establishment and maintenance of this time.

Straight from the OBC Catalog:

MUSIC
All music used in Chapel must be approved by the head of the music department.  Students with more than fifty demerits will not be used for special music.  No taped background will be used in Chapel services.  Students are not to possess or listen to worldly music such as rock, country western, or contemporary Christian (so called).
All music on any medium in any student's possession must be approved in advance by the head of the music department.  Demerits will be given to those who possess or listen to unapproved music.  Most radio stations are unacceptable.  The burden of propriety is on the student--if in doubt, stay away from it!

Of course this one does not apply to Jim Vineyard and his staff

That brought back some memories.  I must say that men not being allowed to wear sweatpants in public is probably a good rule, as is not wearing pajamas in public.  I never paid attention to the ladies rules section when I was there, so some of those surprised me. I also chuckled remembering how some of those rules came into being.

As a suggestion it is not silly.  But when you look at Dormitory Demerits #12 (which I listed in a post).

It is no loner a suggestion but a regulation with demerits given for failure.

That is silly

Bro. Ross opening remarks to the OBC Catalog:

FOREWORD
This handbook is a set of necessary guidelines and sanctions.  The Bible is also such a book.  Without guidance in some detail we would all be going in different directions and, I suspect, the wrong directions at once.  These guidelines will help you as a student to make wise, Bible-based decisions in all matters of conduct, dress, and propriety, as they relate to student life at Oklahoma Baptist College.  But, in addition, this handbook will tell you what to expect if the guidelines are not followed.
The handbook can't include every possible infraction that a student could make.  The Bible, however, should indeed be altogether sufficient in that all sin has been lumped into three categories according to I John 2:16:  1) the lust of the flesh, 2) the lust of the eyes, and 3) the pride of life.  We are given numerous examples of both the blessings of avoiding these pitfalls as well as the judgment and consequences of becoming their victims.  Thus, we have found that a student handbook is a necessity.
Attitude is the key ingredient to success when it comes to the handbook.  The student who enters into the handbook thinking that “this is the least I can get by with” or “I can take on this many demerits before I get into serious trouble” is already in trouble.  The student who has the attitude that a single demerit is a thing to be avoided will have no trouble staying inside the guidelines of the handbook.
Every rule in the book is there out of necessity because of potential problems, past problems, or student failures.  A rule is no good that is not enforced.  Rest assured our rules will be enforced.  Rules unenforced eventually lead to a removal of the landmarks.  We are reminded in Proverbs 22:28:  “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.”  Our prayer, our aim is to keep Oklahoma Baptist College on course.  The Word of God is our foundation.  The handbook is intended to be a tool to specify certain rules and guidelines for the student while he is attending and training here.
May God allow this handbook to be a blessing to you by making your days of preparation and training at Oklahoma Baptist College among the greatest of your life.

Robert A. Ross, Jr.
Executive Vice-President, OBC&I

I hope I am not too late to the party. I have been a stalker for some time now, but I can no longer hold back! lol Most of these rules were crazy enough, but I lived in the girl's dorm. That is about as close to being a P.O.W. as I will ever be. One of the many times I was denied permission to do something I was given this advice "Someday you will understand why we have these rules". It has been almost 10 years and I am still waiting on that revelation. I will also go ahead and admit I failed the handbook test one semester. Imagine that! lol
