Roles in homes are a matter of the heart.

If two have become one flesh, how can there be significance in roles?

My wife is a much better cook so she cooks the meals. I do much better with finances so I do the bills. She has more time and so she does my laundry (kids do their own). I do better saving and couponing so I do the grocery shopping. She keeps the calendar. I mow the lawn. We both clean the house. We both parent our kids.

I'm not sure how the roles of one spouse are more significant than the roles of the other.

I'm sorry but where did I say that her role was more significant than mine?

The other day I went out to mow because I LOVE it!  It's very therapeutic for me to mow the beautiful acreage I live on.  Anyway, my husband stayed inside and swept the floors.  hahahaha!  We have laughed about it ever since!  I had been cooking, cleaning, etc. getting the house ready for Easter family and guests.  And he thought he'd help out.  Sooooo sweet!  He even did the laundry while I baked!  What a man, what a man, what a man!!!!!

Ah. A conversation on gender roles that is based on the Bible and not modern, Western worldviews. That would be interesting.

I agree. Start a thread and maybe it will lure your buddy Alayman back. I miss him and I know you do too.  :)

I would think both sides of this issue would agree that there are specific gender roles given in Scripture.
The problem comes as we individually seek to apply them in a modern, western culture...which is where we live!

Some jus do a much better job of it than others.... :)

Please tell him how ashamed I am of him.  :)

You are saying that the gender roles are important.  Is a difference in gender dress also important?

Yes, and this is why you would never shop for pants in the WOMANS department.

I look at it as my role to clip the coupons!

So as long as the fashion designers say that it was created for a woman everything is o.k.?

You implied yours was more significant than hers:

The truth is that if I went home and talked to my wife and explained to her that I believe that her wearing pants is not what I believe God has for us, she would start wearing dresses only.

Roles in homes are a matter of the heart.

When we were in college, Raider, do you remember when ties for women came into style???  Actual ties...like men's.  No one seemed to have a problem with it.  It wasn't a modesty issue, so no one seemed to care.

See this is where my disconnect comes in.

No one has answered this question for me and I have asked it a few times.

Were robes accepted in the old testament as a mans garment?  If so, then that is culture, or would you disagree with this that it was culture?

Our culture today would say that a robe is a woman's garment, would you agree with this?

To me it is culture.  And yes, I believe a woman can wear pants modestly.

Yes, I'm affirming what Scripture teaches, some gender roles are specific.
Certainly dress can be in violation of some of these gender roles, IMO.
But, to say that a woman wearing pants automatically violates that principle is ridiculous...again, IMO.

But, if you believe that a lady wearing pants automatically violates Biblical gender roles, you would, of necessity, believe that a woman wearing pants is violating/disobeying Scripture.
Wouldn't you...to be consistent?  ;)

It's been too many bottles of Binaca ago for me to remember that.  That would probably be a good example though.  I'm trying to make sure that I am following Bruh's thought pattern.

I assume, they are specifically addressing females....old landmark...old path females! :)

Don't expect a real answer.  When REAL questions are asked, they get ignored if they make too much sense.  Ha!

I believe a robe was an accepted garment for men in the OT.  I believe the robes were different than a ladies.  If I understand correctly a man also wore breeches.

I don't believe robes were ever the man's attire in our culture.  Until "recent" times men wore pants and woman wore dresses in our society.

Now, back to my question to you, "So as long as the fashion designers say that it was created for a woman everything is o.k.?"

Yes, if one believes your first sentence he/she would also have to believe your second sentence.

So, you are one, I conclude.

Raider: I believe a robe was an accepted garment for men in the OT.I believe the robes were different than a ladies.  If I understand correctly a man also wore breeches.

Again, I conclude you know this because...the fashion designers 'designed them as such'.... :)
