Thrilled that they were actually missionaries, a middle-aged American couple arrived to work at a Christian orphanage. They immediately started fouling up scheduled events by starting events of their own at the same time. One well-organized outing had to be cancelled while the wife stood shrieking at us because she was going to cut the boys' hair instead.
They finally got run off, disrupted both the Baptist and Assemblies of God churches, and decided to leave after six month. On their last Sunday in Mexico, they attended the Baptist church. I was teaching the children's church that day, and I had no helpers. I pleaded with the wife to help. After a dramatic and grief-stricken spiel about how humiliating it is to work for me, she agreed.
It was by far one of the best children's church services I have ever seen, and it was thanks to her help. Having failed everywhere as a ruler, when she became a servant, she succeeded.
