Wine and alcohol in the Bible

Why would anyone have a problem stimulating the mind and/or body?

Well, why would any Christian have a problem with it? I could understand a Buddhist's concern.

Is that your answer to my question?

O.k on a serious note, 6 beers now that is a good buzz.....I mean really have you ever done it?  Nothing like 6 beers and a good discussion about the end times.

I've never had 6 beers at a sitting.  I could probably drink 6 beers without getting drunk, though.  I'm pretty fat, and that makes a huge difference in the amount of alcohol you must consume to get a higher blood-alcohol-level.

I have lost 30 lb. in the last 4 months, though, woohoo!  And I intend to lose a lot more, God willing.

I'm just trying to figure out, what would the purpose be for consuming any alcoholic beverage? Other than to stimulate the mind and or body.
Just sayn.

Other than to affect the mind or body?  Because it tastes good.  Very good, depending on what you're drinking.  It also relaxes you, but then we're getting back to mind and body.

O.k so the purpose would be to relax.  At least that is why you would drink alcohol. And for the taste, I don't get that one but each his own.

So under no circumstance would you drink it to get not drunk but......well you know a little buzz or would a little buzz be considered being drunk?

No more than a little second-helping gas could be considered being a glutton.

So if a person drinks enough to get slightly tipsy, that is sin?
Then why drink at all?

I didn't say that.

I liked this from the article... One lesson I have learned from this is that although I think that I am being biblical, often my tradition and Christian subculture shape my thinking more than I realize.

I think he makes a very valid point.

Obviously the man who wrote that article was drunk....

...what a crock!

That was not my intent at all, you're funny.  Really, why drink at all, for the taste?

Sure, and also to enhance a meal, to quench thirst, to celebrate, to commemorate the Lord's death, and for its pharmacological effects (mild euphoria and relaxation, which is why a glass of wine makes a good natural sleep aid or a "social lubricant" at gatherings).

And alcohol is not a drug, right? LOL!!

Didn't say it wasn't. Answer what you see, not what you wish you see.

Hey if you can drink let's say.....I don't know 6 or 7 beers or 2 or 3 or even one crown and coke and really enjoy the taste, have at it my friend.

I can do that without your permission, so thanks for nothing.

Touchy touchy.

I'm the touchy one, and yet you're the one who responded to my post twice, for double the butthurt?

This isn't exactly ground breaking stuff, forum wise.
The bottom line is what you believe and practice, you will give an account to God for....

Personally, I don't, haven't and don't ever intend to drink....don't think it's a sin, just don't think it wise, personally.
My dad was a drunk...to give perspective.

I do believe it is a sin to be drunk, high etc.

Now, above is THE definitive alcohol position.....ignore or disagree at your own peril!  :D

Affects of Alcohol:

Have your grandparents die at a young age, have your mom die before the age of 36, be divorced and married three times, have two kids that have drinking problems-one that is gay, loose a good paying job that you had for over 20 years, loose numerous job opportunities, cause your parents to go into debt to bail you out while you are in rehab. now that your son has a drinking problem he now looses his job, and lies to family members about another job, think about killing yourself because you screwed up your life, take the trust from extended family members and break it, use up your pention, borrow money on a farm that is paid off, that is just the beginning!!!!

Dont take the first drink and you will not have to worry about the above problems. Or be "free" in Christ and have a great time!!

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:1-5, ESV)

And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” (Mark 7:14-15, ESV)
