How to Succeed at God's Work

Why? Vince brings a tried and true perspective to great truths. And if applied will bring great success.

Can you explain it to the rest of us, then? Concisely, I mean.

No, because again, I'm pulling your chain.

I mean really who really takes Vince seriously?  I'm just having fun people and then I read to my wife the responses and then she laughs at me.

Vince, thank you for your writings! I for one am not scornful like others you have pointed out at this gathering.

You are profound and very intriguing in your writings. You no doubt have meditated for many hours before posting. I have grown just from your writings. If you ever start a church and become the pastor I will move my family to that church for the preaching.

Thank you for being so willing to take criticism while maintaining a positive attitude.  Keep on keeping on!

I'm speechless!  SMH!

Why? Vince brings a tried and true perspective to great truths. And if applied will bring great success.

Vince is a shallow idiot...and that you would want to place your family under his say nothing shallow teachings...well, that's incredible.  If you think he is a qualified teacher then you are as dangerous as he is.

T-Bone, even I can sense the sarcasm here!

We've seen that success in God's work results from grace, using your spiritual gifts, wisdom, clinging strongly to God's Word, and forgiving.

Obedience also produces success in God's work. John 14:21 tells us "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

Notice that it is not the obedience so much as the love that produces the obedience. Do you want to see God do things in your life? Do you want to see results? Loving Jesus enough to obey Him produces those results.

"Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged." 1 Chronicles 22:13

The English language has three main tenses: past, present, and future.

Hebrew and Greek, however, only have two main tenses: continuing and complete. Most of the verbs in the Bible are in the continuous tense, but they have to be translated into either past, present, or future.

A Christian who loves God enough to be in continuous obedience is guaranteed success in God' work.

2 Chronicles 20:20  "Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”

One of HAC's major errors was teaching us that the size of your bus route was a measure of your spirituality. Depending on who is counting, three different students could claim to have the world's largest bus route, and all three were expelled. Vineyard's Gangsters provided all the proof you needed that the doctrine is not true.

Meanwhile, students were building large Sunday School classes, were volunteering for unpaid work, were generously giving money to other students (Yes, giving is a spiritual gift and the Bible gives instructions and blessings on giving), were getting good grades, were working secular jobs to pay their way through, etc., and these people were never mentioned.

Soul-winning IS success in God's work, but so are many other means of service.

Vince you said, "Hebrew and Greek, however, only have two main tenses: continuing and complete. Most of the verbs in the Bible are in the continuous tense, but they have to be translated into either past, present, or future."

Vince do you know Greek?  I have taken 13 hours of Greek in college and seminary and forgotten most  of it but this I know: In the indicative mood the aorist tense denotes action that occurred in the past time, often translated like the English past tense.  What about the perfect tense or how about the "past perfect" tense?

Do you know how silly you sound?  Please stop your nonsense.  I think you could contribute in a very positive way on the FFF but because of things such as you just wrote people do not take you serious.  A message is no better than what people think of you (no matter how sound it may be).

I do not mean to be cruel but you come off as self-righteous .....  I'm not saying you are, I'm just saying that's the way you come off.

Sorry Edwards. You just certified yourself as a "scorner."

I don't think Vince is a bad guy but 'silly' describes him to a tee. And no, he doesn't realize how silly he sounds.

Good to hear from you, Edwards.

I taught Greek on the college level. The indicative mood of the aorist tense refers to actions that are complete. As you correctly pointed out, those verbs are usually translated into the past tense.

2 Chronicles 31:20-21 tells us "Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and true before the LORD his God.
And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered."

HAC incorrectly taught us that success is determined solely by the size of your bus route, but there is an opposite error: success is determined by obedience. A Christian who has nobody saved, no outreach, no effective Sunday School class, no giving, no teaching, etc., is a success if he is obedient.

But if he were obedient, God would give him success in God's work. A Christian whose entire ministry consists of feeding himself is not obedient, and he is not being blessed with success in God's work.

Still wondering if your interpretation of the Spirital Gifts is slanted by your A.O.G. association.

When you say the Gifts are "available to us", what do you mean?

Prophet, I mean two things, both of which are taught in Scripture.

1) Every Christian has a spiritual gift. 1 Corinthians 12 talks about spiritual gifts, concluding in verse 11 "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

2) You can have more than one spiritual gift. 1 Corinthians 14:1 tells us "Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy."

The AOG has sometimes managed to push the doctrine that speaking in tongues is the evidence of the filling of the Holy Spirit into the background; the Bible clearly tells us that tongues is the least of the gifts, and that we are to seek the better gifts. Our church actively supports soul-winning, and we have just helped bring in a missionary who has established several successful churches--he'll be serving in Guadalajara. The AOG just paid for Mayra Neighbor, who runs our Saturday Children's Church, to spend a week in training for VBS, and then she will be training other churches. We spend about two weeks a year on Indians reservations conducting VBS. I'm in the church where I want to be.
Ok, we all recognize the presence of the gifts, plainly they are taught in Scripture ( don't forget Romans 12).

What I'm asking, conceening the gifts, is their purpose.

For instance, tongues, are they evidence to your felow church members that you are spirit-filled?

I'm asking what Vince Massi believes, not what his AOG assembly says or does.

Good to hear from you, Prophet.

As far as history reveals, the doctrine that speaking in tongues is the evidence of the filling of the Holy Spirit was not invented until the early twentieth century. Acts 1:8 tells us that witnessing is the result of being Spirit-filled, and that is what I believe.

After decades of crashing and burning, the AOG finally managed to come up with the idea (still not taught in Scripture) that you can be filled with the Holy Spirit without the evidence. My church believes that, and I do not. The Bible also teaches that love is more important than spiritual gifts, and my church believes that.

The AOG in Mexico often conducts Vacation Bible School on Indian reservations. Mayra Neighbor, who leads our children's ministries, is being trained in Mexico City today to teach other AOG churches how to conduct a successful VBS. We will have our own, and then will conduct two more on reservations.

Ok, so we agree on that point.

Just for further clarification, what do you believe concerning the gift each of us was given, and the others we receive, through desiring them from God, principle among these being Prophecy?

Do you believe that, once the believer possesses their gift(s), they can exercise them?

Do you believe that the Holy Spirit uses the believer as the Gift, to the church, and  that the believer himself becomes the gift  (Eph 4)?

Do you believe that The Spirit exercises the Gifts through the believer, and that the believer has no control over when and where they are used?

Or, something else entirely?

I'm glad to hear from you, Prophet. Every Christian has a spiritual gift, and these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit, as He sees fit, for the edifying of the church. We are told not to be jealous or resentful over the gift the Holy Spirit gives us, because His goal is to have a body that works well together.

It is a mistake for a church to forbid a Christian to exercise his gift if he doesn't show up for weekly soul-winning.

Likewise, it is wrong for a Christian to rebel against authority, trying to seize power, because he claims that he has a certain spiritual gift.

We are told to covet the better gifts, especially prophecy. This shows that you can later receive additional spiritual gifts.

Prophecy enables you to teach and comfort other Christians (1 Corinthians 14:31) "For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged." Nowhere does the New Testament give a prophet the authority to tyrannize over the saints. Scripture places no limits on how many Christians can have the gift of prophecy, so why doesn't God just give it to all of us? Because you can't hand a powerful tool to someone who can't handle it. If you obey God's command to seek the gift of prophecy, He might start working on the reasons why you can't have it yet.
