How to Succeed at God's Work

"O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come." Psalm 65:2

Another key to success in God's work is answered prayer.

I was surprised to learn that you're supposed to get your prayers answered. If your prayers are not getting answered, something is wrong. It is God's very nature to answer prayer. The unscriptural doctrine that God answers all prayer, He just says "No," isn't necessary--God clearly tells us in the Scriptures how to get our prayers answered.

So if I pray, "Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz," and God doesn't, it's not because the request is wrong, just the way I prayed for it. OK.

The statement that I am teaching the prosperity gospel is a false accusation.

But while we're on the subject:

Prosperity preachers quote Scripture about the blessing of giving, so you should give to them. But when you look those verses up, the context usually shows that they are talking about giving to the poor, not to a wealthy evangelist.

We have seen that it is God's nature to answer prayer; God WANTS to answer your prayers. So how do you get faith to believe?

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Merely reading the Bible will help. But we saw from Psalm 1 and Joshua 1:8 that a strong devotion to God's Word guarantees success. And now we see that this success includes getting prayers answered.

The doctrine that God answers all prayer--yes, no, later--is contrary to Scripture.

Psalm 66:18 tells us "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me."
 
"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it."

John 14:13-14 is one of the most misunderstood passages in Scripture. Nowhere in Scripture did someone conclude a prayer with the word "In Jesus' Name. Amen" And when Jesus taught us how to pray, He did not conclude with those words.

Asking in Jesus' Name means asking with the authority of Jesus, knowing that Jesus has authorized the prayer. Notice that when Jesus does answer a prayer in His Name, it glorifies the Father. Asking for something that is wrong or out of God's will is not asking in Jesus' Name, regardless of the words used. Disobedience, even if successful, does not glorify the Father.
 
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Are you saying after one has been born again if they sin it separates God from you so that he won't hear you?

Readers, I'm going to have to take a brief detour to deal with the unscriptural doctrine that God answers all prayer, He just says "No."

Why God doesn't answer prayer:

1) Honoring sin-- Psalm 66:18 tells us If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.

2) Refusing to submit to God's Word  Proverbs 28:9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.

3) Mistreating your wife--1 Peter 3:7  Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

4) Stubbornness--Zechariah 7:12-13 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts.

5) Rejection of the fear of the Lord Proverbs 1: 28-29  "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD,

6) Asking for the wrong reason--James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

7) Not helping the poor Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard.

Matthew 18:19 tells us ""Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven."

God was blessing us with over 25 kids in our Saturday Neighborhood Bible Study, but we wanted them to grow more. I prayed about it, others prayed about it, and Mayra started picking up kids for Wednesday night church. When I learned that she was bringing in eight kids in her compact car, I volunteered to use my van, and we increased.

Because we were united in our prayers for God to bless these kids further, He answered us. And He'll do the same thing for you.

Years ago, I had a friend with stomach cancer. He was 24. The whole church was praying  fervently for his healing. He died anyway.

Put another way, your theology of prayer and "success" is vapid BS, and it's probably high time you found something else to drone on about.
