A few of the families in our Christian schools were dedicated liars, training their children to be liars like themselves, and were proud of their lying skills. A teacher (sometimes me) would talk to both parents of a lying student, and later, in the principal's office, the three of them would pour out lies, as fast as they could pronounce them, about how evil the teacher had been at the meeting. Hopelessly outnumbered by three eyewitnesses, the teacher could only state that they were lying.

And the family won. Every single time. No exceptions. And then they would go to the telephone and  lie to every other parent that would listen to them. But the teachers were never fired. And no one ever withdrew their child from the school. No exceptions.

What was going on?

When a family would bury a teacher in accusations, the family always won. But the teacher was never fired, because...

Imagine the school leaders' situation. A teacher with a consistent reputation for Godliness was being accused by people with a consistent reputation for ungodliness. Right off the bat, you see the problem. The family was pouring out accusations that did not agree with the teacher's known conduct. When the teacher responded that the family was lying, his accusation agreed with the family's known conduct.

Embarrassed leaders would explain to the teacher that they were afraid the parents would sue, the family would pull their kids out of the school, etc. The parents would sometimes launch a telephone smear campaign on the teacher, but no one ever pulled their child out of the school.

So we see:

1) Piling on accusations is widely recognized as a  liars' tactic.
2) The liars honestly did not realize that everyone knew they were liars.
3) The liars mistook fear for respect--nobody respected the liars, except the other liars.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why we keep getting over 100 hits per day from people who want to learn how to be blessed by God.

I sometimes tried to reason with the pastor and other leaders that we needed to confront these people. Tell them kindly, but plainly, that everyone knew they were lying. They won because we were afraid they would sue or pull their kids out of the school, but nobody believed them.

The shocked reaction of the leaders was that those people would destroy or at least heavily damage the church's and school's ministry, so I was to keep my mouth shut while they handled it.

The liars were bullies who were failures in Christian service. I did not realize at the time that they were tares, but I did know that I never had a problem with a parent who was living a Godly life and was succeeding in Christian service. But here on the FFF, no one is afraid of the scorners. They can't sue, and nobody needs their financial support.

So I can point out that they are failures in their Christian service, that many of them are tares, and their own insults and accusations describe themselves. And our readers? We're getting over 100 hits per day from people who want to learn how to succeed in God's work, despite the attacks by the scorners.

The Barna Group is a "for profit" organization that analyzes churches. They did a study on unsuccessful small churches, concluding that they were usually dominated by people who had seized power through fear. They would threaten to withhold finances, pull their families out, or cause other problems if they were not made leaders.

The members did not like their leadership, were usually unhappy with their church, and the church was not growing.

The Barna Group noted that these leaders often engaged in conduct that would get them fired in the workplace, were not respected in their communities, and were not effective leaders. But the members could not leave, because they believed that their church taught "true doctrine."·

I would beg to differ here. I think these 100 hits per day are probably from college level psych classes. Vince, you are just a class project for future psychologists. They will probably argue in class on Monday morning whether you are real or just playing games.
