I went to church and a rock concert broke out.

Why was God going to pour out His wrath and consume the nation of Israel while Moses was receiving the ten commandments?
No correct answers yet.  Here is a hint:  read Exodus 32:5

Yes? What part of they worshiped a golden calf rather than (in place of) the true God did we get wrong?
Anyone else?

Its rather clear....

Exo 32:7  And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
Exo 32:8  They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Exo 32:9  And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

Did you read those verses?

I guess you missed Exodis [sic] 32:7-8.

Ex 32:5.  Context, people, context.  We must read the OT story in context.

Israel has left Egypt.  Moses is on the Mt. receiving the commandments where there is fire and all sorts of stuff going on.  Moses has been gone awhile and the people are getting nervous.  "We know we are following God, but who is this God we are following?  Make us a representation of this God so we can understand Him."

Aaron wants to represent the LORD to the people.  The Egyptians (remember these people had lived their whole life in Egypt and were familiar with their culture) had a god named Apis who was the god of strength, power and fertility.  The son of a bull is a calf.  Aaron is representing to the people that their God is the Son of the God of power.  Aaron is trying to use a manner of worship that was familiar to the people.  Notice also that the people made the god out of their earrings (A symbol of willing submission).

Contemporary:  At the same time -or- in the same manner

Aaron wanted to help the people worship God in the same manner that they had seen the Egyptians worship.  Same statues, same dress (naked), same festivities (dance) and same music that was a sound of clashing and shouting.

Did every person there worship idols?  No.  Some people were not killed.  Did many people take Aaron's attempt to worship God in the manner of Egypt to only worship the worship?  Yes.  3,000 people were killed.

I contend that it is sin to attempt to worship God in the manner of Egypt.

1.  We cannot be holy and carnal at the same time.
2.  We must approach God in holiness.
3.  The carnal worship was soon the object of worship.

Next question:

Is it possible for God to be displeased with our worship of Him?

If we are making stuff up, why not?

Is God displeased when one uses the dance and percussion instruments in praising the name of the LORD?

Psa 149:3  Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

Does God desire our use of dancing to the music of percussion instruments when praising him?

Psa 150:4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Maybe it wasn't the music and dancing that was displeasing, but rather the return to the worship of the gods of Egypt.

Cherry picking is common among IFBs with their pet convictions.

Guilt by association is viewed as a valid method of argumentation.

I believe I addressed that in post 64.

Nope. You ignored it.

1. You are. Everyone is. Are you saying you're not carnal? Take another "sniff". I'm pretty sure they were sacrificing animals for atonement. Yet that sorry old sin still keep coming around.
2. True. The people in question weren't approaching God. They had only one go between. One advocate. He was up on the mountain.... WITH GOD.
3. The people were down the mountain without God.

They weren't worshiping God. They were worshiping a false God. You ignored verse 7 and verse 8.

I just don't understand how you NUTS think with such circular reasoning. You find something you think you exploit and you circle that one little "bit" of important as if everything else isn't relevant.

Take for example. The very tablets that Moses broke as came down off the Mount to deal with this problem. Those very tablets didn't have one thing in them about how they worshiped Jehovah. It did have something in them about this very issue. As God Himself, was writing the text those "3000" you mentioned down the mountain..... were worshiping a false God. They were breaking the first couple of commands being given to Moses.

Do you remember the mocking of Elijah toward the prophets of Baal? Elijah got rather rough with those that were following Baal. By you're reasoning.... Elijah should have been punished for mocking God. Since it was a representation of God and God cares about how false idols are dealt with because it.... "somehow".... is indicative of how people should treat Him.

You're a NUT if you think God cares how someone worships a false God. They already had the sentence of death upon them..... and it didn't come from dancing or "rocking out" to the beat of the music.

If people who see everything in black and white could conceive the concept of color their lives would be so much richer.

Most people do not live in "either" nor do they live in "or". Most people live in the nuanced world in between.

Who did Aaron ask them to worship in verse 5?  The LORD.

Aaron gave them the method of worship that was familiar to them from Egypt (statues, nudity, clashing sounds and shouting).

3,000 men worshipped the worship instead of God.  For this, they were killed.

What led to the idolatry?  Aaron's attempt to help the people worship the LORD in the manner of Egypt's worship.
