so...... is that the name of the creek?.... or a sign telling swamp folk to wade across there?... and maybe expect the trail to resume on the other side?..... .... i don;t think i would though ..... looks like a place where gators and other reptilian creatures would be hiding out..... :(

Ha…I never thought of that name like that before. That is Cross Creek, which is both a physical creek and a tiny community in North Central Florida. The creek connects two large lakes, the largest being Orange Lake, which is where I went duck hunting a few weeks ago. Two famous books (and a movie) are based on the creek and lake by Marjorie Rawlings: Cross Creek and The Yearling, which won her the Pulitzer Prize.

I took this picture recently while visiting Miami. This is the Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida. Interesting information related to how did a tiny, sickly man build this by hand without the aid of machinery. It reminds one of the questions surrounding how the Egyptian pyramids were built. https://bittersoutherner.com/coral-...t-to-love-or-aliens-or-limestone-coral-castle

Also related to the man who built this castle is Billy Idol’s music video called Sweet Sixteen:

OK, you might have to explain this a little better for those of us who have no experience. The wood is the jig? What makes it Flemish?
"flemish" refers to the string itself and the way it is made.... .. a flemish string is a set of cords cut at a specific length ...twisted together... and then looped over at each end and spliced back into itself..... this makes a very strong bowstring that has the same number of cords in it;s loop as the rest of the string....

the other and most common kind of bowstring is an endless loop string... . it;s one long cord looped over and over to form a string of a specific length and then served with a tough thread to strengthen the loops.... not as strong as a flemish string.....but it;s much cheaper and easier to make... and it;s the kind most often supplied with store bought bows .... .......

here is a picture of a flemish bowstring.....

here - shown below - is a continuous loop bowstring......
