The Beneficial & Great Accomplishments of The Obama Administration

1. Iraq:  As a Senator from Illinois, Obama was one of the few with the guts to vote against the 2003 invasion of Iraq, a disastrous operation based on false pretenses that disrupted the Middle East, shifted the balance of power in favor of Iran, and cost the lives of over 4000 Americans and many more Iraqis.  As President, he promised to extricate the troops honorably from Iraq and did so.

2. Afghanistan, another war he inherited:  After consulting with experts on both the military and civilian sides, President Obama, despite opposition from his own supporters, authorized an increase in troop levels to help strengthen the government and put more pressure on the Taliban.  He promised to bring most of our troops home in 2014 and that process is underway.

3. Health care:  He put in place a national health care plan to provide affordable health care for all citizens and prevent insurance companies from discriminating against the sick.  Presidents since Harry Truman have been trying to do this.  President Obama was the first to pull it off despite the total opposition of an obstructionist Republican Party.  I think Obamacare will work out fine in the end, just as Medicare has, but it might be an even better plan if he had gotten some cooperation from the Republican side of the aisle.  We were the only first world, developed country that did not ensure that its citizens had access to affordable health care until President Obama came along.

4. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (“Stimulus Package”):  President Obama was able to get this bill through Congress despite the usual opposition of an obstructionist Republican Party.  The bill was designed to stimulate and restore confidence in the U.S. economy.  It provided for tax cuts, extended unemployment benefits, health and education, and job creation programs.  By most measures it has been a success.  Unemployment has steadily declined, GDP has steadily risen and the S&P 500 has increased in value by almost 170 per cent since early 2009.  Of course the stimulus package wasn’t the only factor contributing to these improvements but it was a significant one.

5. Osama Bin Laden:  George W. Bush had seven years to get him, but didn’t make it a priority.  President Obama did.  In May 2011, a little over two years into his presidency, he authorized an operation by the Navy Seals and others to kill Bin Laden at his refuge in Pakistan.  The operation was successful.  Defense Secretary Gates, who was there when Obama gave the green light, later called it one of the most courageous decisions he ever saw.

6. Syria:  The Republicans accused Obama of backing down from his “red line” with regard to Assad’s use of chemical weapons.  What nonsense:  With the cooperation of the Russians, President Obama got the Syrian government to give up its chemical weapons which have now been safely neutralized at sea on a special U.S. based ship.

7. Ukraine:  Working with our European allies, President Obama implemented strong economic sanctions on Russia which apparently have caused President Putin to see the light and back off on further Russian aggression.

8. ISIS:  The emergence of this monstrous organization was a direct result of the disastrous policies of the Bush administration during the war in Iraq which resulted in the isolation and alienation of much of the Sunni population.  President Obama has wisely ruled out putting troops on the ground but has authorized a relentless bombing campaign in cooperation with many of our allies and is providing assistance to Iraq and the Kurds to help them defeat ISIS.

These accomplishments, and there are others, are not the work of a weak leader.  They were all achieved despite constant opposition from a completely obstructionist Republican Party (Registered Republican talking here, by the way}.  President Obama doesn’t swagger around and posture.  He evaluates the situation, listens to advice from the experts, makes his decision and proceeds.  These are characteristics of a strong leader.

Don't you love spin doctors? Here, let me try.

1. Iraq: As a Senator from Iraq,, Obama was one of the few with knowledge of the precarious situation in the Middle East. In order to gain favour with the people ion a bid for the Presidency he promised to extricate the troops full well knowing that it would not be long before he would be forced back into taking action at a significant cost.

2. Afghanistan: In spite of Obama's efforts to strengthen the government in Afghanistan, the Taliban are still not under control. It seems the 30,000 troops he deployed were not able to defeat them so instead of continuing to stabilize the country, he decided to pull the troops out and leave the people to defeat the Taliban on their own, and opened the door to invasion from Pakistan, a far costlier problem to deter when the time comes.

3. Health Care: In spite of promising to put together an affordable health care plan Obama spent an enormous amount of money crafting a less affordable plan. Average family premiums rose $2500 annually for a family of 4, equating to some $200.00 less per month for that family in income. That and the over 2 billion dollars spent on a $500.00 website amount to a spending spree that will affect generations to come.

4. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (“Stimulus Package”): We are now 5 years from the nearly trillion dollars spent on trying to stimulate the American economy and have learned that the unemployment rates are now at the same level that they were before the stimulus package, global exports are down, the people actually bailed out by the package were the people that created the economic crash themselves, but now every American is $3000.00 or so further in national debt.

5. Osama Bin Laden: After seven years of research by President Bush, Obama was able to pinpoint his location and send a seal team in to dispatch him.

Anyway. gonna skip too 8, tired.

8. ISIS: See 1. Leaving Iraq allowed ISIS to gain power and Obama to blame ISIS on Bush.

Spinnin, ain't it grand.

Chesterton once remarked with regret that Mary was “ a bad queen ; bad for many things, but especially bad for her own most beloved cause. … She set herself to burn out ‘No Popery’ and managed to burn it in.

Above spoken about Bloody Mary Tudor. He should have studied history instead of pot.

He may go down as the greatest Republican asset of the last 10 years in damaging the Democrat brand.

why is it every time obama and his administration fail to deliver the goods... or get called out on attempts at deception... someone on their side pulls out the "it;s all because of fox news?".. card?......... i don;t even watch fox news........ never have.......

Because they are the "go to" source of truth by the Pubs since they are separating from Rush's bizarre persona.

I didn't vote for Obama and certainly wouldn't if he could run again. I'm just tired of the one-sided bashing when both are equally as guilty as the other in trying to wield power over the people. I am trying to "be the balance" for this forum. :D

We could talk about Obama Care and how it was to be a panacea for people who had been shut out of the healthcare system. My wife included. She now has a healthcare policy where we had an almost impossible time before. However, I am self-employed and provide my own insurance. I just received notification that mine is going up over 50% as of January 2015. So, many who formerly had insurance will now be unable to afford it. All due to Obama Care.

balance would be nice....... somewhere in the true middle ground.....because that;s where the majority of americans really are....... but unfortunately these days... both sides of the political game....once they have won an election... go about trying to push the pendulum farther up into their own side of the rafters....... then when it breaks loose it swings down across those of us in the middle and cuts us to shreds........ it;s really sad.... coz it;s all just a game to them..... and they are not hurt by the forces they put into motion no matter how hard or fast it swings........

Exactly. It has gotten away from representing the view of the constituents and has become to push the agenda of one's party and hence, a power struggle.

I guess he was talking about how insurance companies would save $2,500 per year.  And that's about how much higher my deductible is, so I guess he was right.
