I just ate the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Monday, the local WinCo was selling pork shoulder for $1.78/lb, a deal I couldn't pass up. I smeared the shoulder with my special dry rub and hit it with apple wood smoke for six hours then finished it off in the oven for another six hours. I shredded the meat up and put some in the fridge. Yesterday, I made some sandwiches and it was okay. Today, I took some more meat out and warmed it up. Something magical happened over last night because the meat came out tender and moist, the smoke flavor having permeated fully. I couldn't bring myself to put any BBQ sauce on it. Just grilled ciabatta rolls and a generous helping of slightly tangy cole slaw. Yeah it was good.😋

Lots of paprika, a little brown sugar, a good dose of onion powder and a dash of Cajun seasoning. Before applying, I coat the roast down with minced garlic and yellow mustard so the rub sticks. Then I cake the rub on heavy. But the star of the show was the apple wood chips.

A good rub is great but what separates good BBQ from great BBQ is allowing the meat to rest properly. That is why leftovers are so fantastic 😍.

i visited a greek orthodox church a few times with a friend... . (this was in the weeks right after i left my lutheran church over their acceptance of the gay marriage issue).... ....not sure if that;s the same as the eastern orthodox you are thinking of... .. but i briefly considered joining the greek orthodox .... .... i actually enjoyed their services... .... but since i was already in a hawaiian language bible study with my current sunday school teacher - who had been at the church she teaches at for a long time... i joined the church were she was .. the same one i posted pictures in this thread a few weeks ago... ... .... ..

Orthodoxy is kind of like RCC with less papacy and extra mysticism.

The only thing I liked about the GOC was the Greek food! LoL

There's a large Lebanese population in Ottawa, and an Antiochian Orthodox church hosts an annual Lebanese festival. Ditto the food--Greek and Lebanese food are both Mediterranean, so quite similar. Take a gyros, swap out the minced lamb and beef, and add shaved roast beef or chicken, and you've got shawarma. You can't live in Ottawa without liking Lebanese food: there's basically one Lebanese family that runs the food service industry. :)

I love Lebanese food! We don't have any of their restaurants near me. We have to drive an hour or so North to Nashville, or about 75 minutes to Chattanooga to get it!

i love greek food too.... :)... we have a greek festival every year on oahu.. ..usually held the last weekend of august ... . and it was at that festival many years ago where i first tasted greek food and realized how good it was..

in fact... this years festival is this coming weekend at mccoy pavilion in ala moana park.... ..and we will definitely be there... 😋.

Several of my ancestors came from Greece back in the middle to late 1800's, and one came from Lebanon back in the late 1800's. My family is very eclectic.

i have some friends from school who have greek ancestory.... ...i always thought they had the most awesome last names... ... i am still close to one of them who is in our bicycle group and also goes spear fishing with us.. .... .
