I've been among the IFBs for 30 years. Have you done the same? I've been from one end of the spectrum to the other. I've personally meet and fellow-shipped with many of the "icons" of the faith. I've had these same men yell "Amen" throughout the sermons I preached. Have you done the same? I speak from experience.

I'll compare my resume with yours any day.

If you want to formally debate the absurd position of your OP, I'm up for it.

Judging by the nature and content of your posts, it shouldn't take too much of my time to cause you to self destruct.

I have been in independent, fundamental Baptist churches for 35 years, but 5 of those were in the nursery and/or primary church.  I guess we can discount those 5 and say that I have been in for the same length of time.  And, I have been to churches in nearly every state in the lower 48 and a few in Canada.  So, yes, I think I can say roughly the same.  You will never hear me defend "all" IFBs, just like you do not hear me condemn all SBC churches.  I disagree with something about everyone, and occasionally disagree with myself.  But, I do know a lot of good IFB pastors.  And, I have never met an IFB "icon," though I have seen a few icons in some Catholic churches I have toured.

I'm not, nor have I ever been, IFB, so I really don't have a dog in this fight. So of course, having said that....

IMHO, the validity of his argument went out the window the second he called IFBs stupid. No matter how many verses he could quote, I would read his post through the lens of him insulting others who just happen to not agree with him and I just wouldn't be able to take him as seriously as I'm sure he'd want to be.

So an insult changed everything I said? Did Jesus every insult anyone?

Honest question. Be a honest man and give me a honest answer?

Yes, it did.

Insult? No. Read them "the riot act" so to speak? You betcha.

"And be ye kind, one to another"

Calling people stupid is not kind.

And as an IFB, I do not resemble any of the points stated in the OP.  I sincerely disagree that IFBs as a whole are Pharisaical.  I know plenty of wonderful people in my church who live exactly as they preach and love people where they are.

Wow I didn't know I was stupid ..........I know I'm not stupid for choosing to be IFB . This is a way of life for me. I would never call someone else stupid even if I was thinking it.......I'm sorry you think we are stupid but you may have put some nuts in the same bowl but we are not stupid.

Sure you are Sherry. I was stupid for every being a part of IFBdum. I'm not saying anything in this forum that I haven't told myself in the past. You maybe offended........ GOOD. You should be.

Jesus said "offenses must need come". You should do yourself a favor and study just why Jesus used these words. I lost friends..... People I loved and still love when I abandoned your cult to embrace the truth. I know you think you're not the same but you are.

Just let me tell you why.

You IFBs constantly berate those that have left your ranks. You allow you pastors to stand their pulpits and ridicule those that love Christ all the time. All the time. Week in. Week out. You.... Sherry. YOU.... sit there and let it happen. In fact, you probabily...(like a good cult member) sit there and say Amen. Maybe you don't realize what's going on.... but let me make it clear for you.

You've been offended by my words...... Yet. Your pastors condemn me and those like me.... and you don't do anything. Anything. Nothing. I've given biblical reasons why your ways offend me. They are offensive to others. Those that could care less about what someone thinks.

When your pastor stand in their pulpits and claim Jesus is a Baptist. That offends me. It offends me when you pastors stand in pulpits and say that if they weren't a "baptist".... they'd be ashamed. It offends me as a Christian to here your leaders twisting the Scriptures to the point that you're blind to these things.

So... you're not the only one that is offended. Maybe you should have a talk with your leaders and apply the same standards you applied to me above.... TO THEM. Stop being a coward.
christundivided, I am not in a cult. As Billy Graham states the cross is offensive....if you believe you were freed from bondage so be it. You have every right to believe what you want.......and so do I without making people feel like they are stupid. I hope it works for you....

Yes. You are in a cult. You're not taking offense in the cross. You're taking offense in my characterization of the term Baptist.  I did not say Christians are a stupid. Just Independant Fundamental Baptist are stupid. The fact you are conflating the two terms.... proves you're mind is overcome with your cult.

No you don't. The fact you label yourself IFB is proof of point #3

Question. Is your sorry pastor kind to everyone? Has he ever used the word stupid concerning anything?

lol, the sad thing is that you don't realize how ignorant you sound, but rather think that you're brilliant.  Ignorance on display for sure.

What does Whited Sepulchres mean? What does hypocrite mean? What did Paul mean when he talked of silly women?

Will you reconsider?

I've found.....that the average person doesn't even know those words are in the bible. I bet you didn't as well.

Just another IFB coward.  If you're not afraid of looking the fool...... then debate me on the values of being a IFB......

So you've never seen the huge portraits of the pastor hanging in the average IFB church? You've got to be kidding me. I take it you don't have a problem with LYING

As swamp hag succinctly said, the errors of some do not mean that all are guilty of those errors.  You lumping all IFBs in the same boat is sheer idiocy and you know it.  Stop being so needlessly ignorant and combative.  Some of your points are legitimate, but they don't cover all, or nearly all people that you are intentionally attempting to offend.  You create way more heat than light on most subjects you participate in.

I think what you said was pretty dumb, aside from the insult.
I chalked the insult up to social inadequacy!

For a man that's left the IFB "movement".... you sure do defend them every chance you get. I once thought you might be different.... but I'm beginning to think you're really not.

Tell you what. Same challenge. I'll participate in a formal debate with you about this very subject. A moderator can edit anything they find offensive.

Up for it?

Sorry I disappoint you.

Point of clarification...you want me/somebody to debate you and the question is whether or not a good percentage of posters on this forum, brothers and sisters in Christ, are stupid?

Typical coward. Put me in my place with overwhelming understanding of those in John the Baptist.

I suppose you have a huge portrait of your pastor hanging in your church. I'd take a crucifix over a portrait of the pastor anyday....

I see you have a hard time reading.... he implied he had never seen such. That Catholics are the ones that had the "icons"....

I've been in dozens of IFB churches and I have only seen two portraits of a pastor in them. That's hardly average, wouldn't you agree?

I wouldn't sign your Bible. I haven't signed one in over 20 years. I gave it for Lint and never picked it back up again.....

Now. Let's break down the numbers.... How long had the pastor been in service in the ones you didn't see the portrait?... and what was the size of congregation?
