You sometimes run into a Christian who has managed to seize a position God didn't give him, and he has to explain away God's promises of blessings, since God is not blessing him.

"God answers all prayer; He just says 'No'" is one of their major doctrines, since God does not answer their prayers. And another one is "Old Testament promises of success don't apply to us," since those promises really do not apply to them.

Does Christ cancel OT promises of blessing? 1 Cor 1:20  "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And through Him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God."

Are some parts of the Bible useless for equipping us for service today? " All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Do some parts of Scripture teach Jews, but not Christians?  "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." Romans 15:4

Did God record things for the benefit of the OT Jews that are useless for NT Christians? "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come." 1 Cor 10:11

You really are delusional aren't you? You want to know how to succeed in Gods work? He'll make it happen if it's His will! Everything else is just self serving. It's about accomplishing His will, not ours, His! Even if that means giving up our lives, dreams or ambitions for His will.

No, Recovering IFB, claiming God's promises is not self-serving--it's what He wants us to do.

If you claim God's promises of blessing, meeting the conditions He has set, you will succeed in God's work.

And while I'm not accusing you (I don't know anything about you), if God is blessing you, you won't have to seize positions that He doesn't want you to have.

And if you don't seize positions that God doesn't want you to have, you don't have to explain why God isn't blessing you.

Okay, back to how to get your prayers answered.

Psalm 37:4 tells us "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Serving Christ doesn't have to be a dreary, difficult task. Jesus even said that His burden is light. When you enjoy sin more than you enjoy Christ, you'll have a hard time getting prayers answered. When Christ is what you enjoy, you'll get results,

This actually overlaps with giving. Jesus said that your heart will be where your treasure is. If you generously give to God's work (which in the Scriptures often means caring for the poor) your heart will be with God.

Okay, RIFB, I wanted to think carefully before answering you. I think you're more intelligent than your post shows, but you're letting anger cloud your thinking. And you're angry because you respect scorners enough to believe their false accusations.

My point is that EVERY Christan can succeed in God's work by seeking the blessings of God. This has been clear from the beginning.

This isn't a blog--I am doing something I started when I was still a student: helping victims of HAC.

Now, when you learn from a scorner, you are learning from a person who has no wisdom, because "A scorner seeks wisdom and finds it not." When you accept a person's accusations as true, you are showing respect for that person. But "Surely He scorns the scorners." God doesn't respect scorners, so why should you?

You don't need to recover from being an IFB; you need to accept the authority of God's Word over the authority of people who have gone wrong. Start seeking God's blessings and you'll feel a lot better when He starts blessing you.
