Trump is now a political liability.

According to this “fact check” article, it’s probably a wash between the third party effect on Republicans vs Democrats. I have always heard that the Ross Perot vote pushed Clinton in the White House, but surprisingly research has actually shown Perot actually helped Bush and hurt the Clinton vote. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...-take-hits-third-party-candidates/3339022001/
I don't believe much of what USA Today publishes. They've got a history of being incorrect on a lot of things.

That might be true, but the point is third party votes probably don’t have a big effect one way or the other in presidential elections. Personally, I have always wished Americans had more than two viable voting options. We’re really the only country with a two party system. Many feel it’s ultimately not a healthy system going forward. There’s a reason that 1/3 of all new voters choose to register as independent.

Tell that to whoever lost in the elections that involved Teddy Roosevelt Bull Moose party! LOL I'm an Independent, and have been since the last term of Reagan! The Republicans left my wife and me back in the middle of his last term in office.

that;s what they call historical revisionism.... twisting a historical fact until it fits a current political agenda or narrative.... ... and every candidate for office will express those same sentiments ... having no concern for 3rd parties.... until the day comes when a 3rd party candidate enters the race that could actually draw votes away from them..... then you will hear them squawk like chickens when a fox has entered the hen house..... ....

and as far as why so many people register as independents nowdays.. it;s because if you register as either a democrat or a republican you will get flooded with junk mail... email... and even trash text messages from candidates begging you for money and support.... the only thing that comes close to it is when you join the NRA.... they send you so much mail begging for money it;s like having a kid in college......

Lord ain't that the truth??!!! We had our mailboxes filled with junk from the candidates and the parties in general. Then we had texts, phone calls, emails, etc., and it isn't worth registering as a Republican or Democrat! Though not my motivation for being Independent, it does help cut down on the junk and solicitations from the parties!

I was registered as independent for many years, even though I almost always voted Republican. However, I recently switched to a registered Republican because otherwise I have very little say in who gets the nomination from the Republicans, and when you live in a county that is probably 80% Republican to begin with, the “real election” ends up being who wins the primary, not the general election.

I'm over 60 and sort of on the portly side myself nowadays since I can't walk without a walker or cane! :) You're still just a youngun! I've never shied away from being moderated. I've never deleted your comments either...oh..wait...I don't have that power. Now, please come clean...is Ekklesian one of your sock puppets? Direct question. Be honest. I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Nope! Ransom can confirm that if you need.

My IP addresses are consistent with South Alabama, Gulf Coast. Not using a VPN, either.

I'll take your word for it. I don't believe you to be a liar. I sometimes use a VPN, but, I prefer not to. Sometimes my computer will turn it on without my knowledge. One of the drawbacks of having Norton...one of the worst as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to find a reliable one we can use for business. We're in Tennessee. but our VPN has shown us to be in Canada, California, and in Kansas at times. I think yesterday we were shown to be in Virginia.

I don't think Trump is an intellectual moron, but he surely does seem to lack the discernment to screen himself from things that will feed the naysayers, like his penchant to bungle things when it comes to his associations or proximity to a variety of kooks in the white nationalist/skinhead/crank mold. Hard for me to believe, whatever his motives were for meeting with Ye, that as a former POTUS that he doesn't have better screening skills and handling than to make sure that the controversial rapper didn't bring any other hot potatoes along with him. He's his own worst enemy, and often deserves some of the bad press that accompanies the libtard media. Admittedly, it's hard to keep holding my nose and looking away.

We got the house back.
I don’t think we have much liability with Trump.

Sorry but I missed seeing this post earlier Most of his winning endorsements were red district endorsements…equivalent to endorsing the Packers in Green Bay. His endorsements cost vital seats in competitive races.

it;s that way here too..... hawaii is 90% democrat... but the ballots in the primary are divided into categories... and set up so you check a box at the top for a specific party.... and then you can only vote in categories where that party has it;s candidates running against each other.... ..in the general election you can vote for whoever you want......

but democrats have had such a lock on hawaii for so long that there are many republicans out there who believe it;s not even worth the effort to vote... ...i have always tried to correct that flawed logic whenever i hear it expressed...

A bit subjective. While I can’t take time to go through all 300 endorsements, surely one stands out… deeply embedded Liz Cheney lost due to Trumps influence.

Kari Lake came closer than any other with Trumps help… she hasn’t lost yet.

Quotes from the November 15 issue of Washington Examiner, a conservative magazine:

"Voters show they want sanity and don't want Trump. . . . These midterm elections have made it crystal clear that voters want to move past the chaos and dishonor of the 45th president."

"It is impossible not to consider this outcome yet another rebuke of the 45th president."

"Republicans must choose - electoral success or Trump. . . . If the Republicans' election failure on November 8 has a silver lining, it's that it will persuade more of them that former President Donald Trump is a massive liability and turn them decisively away from him. . . . The biggest, most important step toward sanity and full electability that the Republican Party can take is to recognize that Trump is yesterday's man, not today's or tomorrow's."

"The Trump delusion has finally started wearing off. . . . If you compare Trump's performance against senatorial and gubernatorial candidates, in both 2016 and 2020, he was a net drag on the ticket."

Meanwhile, thanks to Trump's antics, Republicans and conservatives are being associated, in the public mind, with white supremacists, rappers who want to kill Jews, wacko Qanon cultists and the deranged My Pillow buffoon. It's time for us to unhitch ourselves from Trump's death-grip on our movement, and move on. If we can't do that, then get ready for the Demon-crats to win big in 2024.

Well, here’s the alternative (one of Biden’s senior officials):

Huk, that's really frightening. o_O Thank you for reminding us why we need to get behind responsible conservative Republicans who can actually beat the Demon-crats in 2024, instead of a bunch of bozos who have demonstrated that they are losers.

Even the most liberal and whacko Republicans (RINOs) are a better alternative to what the Dem’s are offering these days.

No, it's an accurate assessment of his overall 'success' rate.
If Liz Cheney's loss is what you can point to as a sign of Trump's influence, that's not much.
She had NO chance in Red Wyoming once she sold out to the Dem's.

There might be exceptions, but the general rule is that, in every race that was competitive, his endorsements in the primary gave us weak candidates in the general election. Weak candidates in competitive races = losers.
