I make myself open to most ministries where there is a need, from nursery to helping with sign-ups...whatever, which is part of being a pastor's wife.  The ministry that I actually am a permanent volunteer for is our Grief Support which can mean anything from volunteering for hospice or helping...

We live right because of who we are in Christ, not to gain merit from Him.  Other than to love God, what can we do to please Him?  And in loving Him we live right.  We tend to get that whole process mixed up, imo.

I wish I had time to read this whole thread but I don't, so...I will probably just be repeating what someone else has said but seriously, I think it's in our DNA to think we can somehow please God with good life and in turn, get something special from Him. I have a daughter with incurable brain...

Our church is actually taking part in this event.  We have over 100 people signed up to invite "unsaved" relatives/friends to their home to view his video.  We are praying for many to come to the Lord through the message and are excited to see what the Lord does through this. 

Truly a difficult day for those of us who loved this man, but his influence will certainly continue and Heaven is just all the sweeter now.  Thank you for your kind words, T-Bone.  He was truly a humble servant.

I read his book, The Jesus I Never Knew, many years ago.  I found it to be very thought provoking and good but I've never read anything else by him.  His writing style was a bit boring but he made some observations that I'd never really thought about regarding Jesus and to me, it was worth the read.
